Congrats to Metropolis Man and LenaLJ!
I had a "throwaway" grid too...actually I had a few of them.
I'm not going to go into full detail of my strategy because it left me one bingo grid (30 pts) below the winners. But I did want to share one thing. I started building painting skill with one of the murals from City Living. That allowed me to get the skill maxed before painting any of the scoring painting types.

I didn't use up a grid box on the first classic painting either; sent her to the library to read a painting book and satisfy some whims.  I also had some throwaway bingo cards; kept masterpiece cards and throwaway cards strictly segregated except for the last one.  I also didn't notice any improvement with the Level 8 easel.  Congrats Metro and Lena!

I also used the same strategy as Metropolis Man and I just had plain bad luck in my actual run. Joan Mitchell had the perfectionist, creative and art lover traits and acquired the creative visionary trait as soon as possible (which was quite quickly with the painter extraordinaire aspiration). She also leveled up painting pretty quickly as well as moved up the ranks of the painter career so she could paint on the better easel. I also ensured she was always very inspired when she started a painting.

She had much better luck on the level 4 or so easel that she painted on...I believe she went something like 8 paintings in a row without a masterpiece of the level 8 easel while as inspired as she could be and a level 10 painting skill. For some reason she just didn't want to paint any medium masterpieces. I had more than double my score in my practice run...so I'm going to chalk this one up to bad luck  ::).

Another option, you can make emotional paintings instead of the classic painting on day 1.  ;D

I didn't think emotional paintings came up as an option until you had built the skill to around level 3.

Good job, Metro and Lena!

I didn't do a practice run on this one. I toyed with the idea of getting a job in order to get the better easel, but since I didn't practice I wasn't sure if that would take too much time with the short lifespan. Other than that, I used a skill book to get to Level 2 and painted landscapes until about level 8, when my painter started turning out masterpieces. I should have kept up with landscapes until level 10. I didn't think about Perfectionist until I'd already started my file. I went with creative, loves outdoors, and loner. I used lot traits and, if I needed another boost to overcome the confident moodlet, the chicken hat or incense.

@reggikko Are you saying there is a hat that gives an inspired moodlet?

The only moods I get from the bear hat was sadness or anger. Possibly not the best idea to use it with an insane Sim though. In this challenge I found that having a few paintings displayed on easels and a bit of a play with clay gave me the very inspired moodlet.

I've never used that hat before and didn't know any CAS items affected moods. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to play test with it one of these days.

This certainly wasn't my best challenge, but I had lots of fun and am happy to have finished in time! (Love the short lifespan!!)

(2 rows x 10) + (6 columns x 5) = 50

Thanks for another fun challenge, team! :)

Can I please be added to the scoreboard? :)

I had better luck in my practice run than in my actual one - but nowhere close to the top scores. Great strategies, everyone!

They are great for getting a quick mood.
Chicken-Inspired
Tiger-Playful
Owl-Energized
Cow-Flirty
Bear-Angry
Panda-Sad

I think the mood lasts for 5 hours. There is a cool-down, but I'm not sure what it is.

I completed 6 columns.    Total points = 30 points.

May I please be added to the scoreboard.  I had posted the above on Sunday.  Thank you.

Not that my input is worth much, but

Quote
You start off having no other option but to do a Classic painting.[/url]
I bypassed this by having my sim's first instruction be to 'psych self up' in the mirror. Then she was able to start a confidence painting straight away - no throwaway classic paintings right at the start. Someone else mentioned City Living murals, but I don't have City Living installed so that wasn't an option. Had to think of something else.

Funnily enough, after that point the confidence mood was the bane of my existence. Getting enough inspired moodlets to stack against the +3 confidence moodlets was such a frustrating endeavor.

Also, this was the first painter I've ever had who was poor. :/ Had to keep all her paintings + not employed = high bills. At one point I had to temporarily sell some of the furniture so I could afford a canvas for a landscape painting or two.
