Reducing Clothes Loaded in CAS
« on: October 26, 2013, 08:26:28 AM »
Long story short, I have pretty much everything for this game from Island Paradise and back. I have no SSD in my computer, and my HDD's aren't even the nice speedy 7200rpm ones. In the normal course of events, I just read the news during loading screens and live with it. This is a huge game, loading is going to be painful.

My problem is CAS where the game has to reload everything when a category/tab is switched, particularly on (young)adults. The thing is, I will never be interested in using a lot of the clothing that is in there, and even cutting out 50% of the stuff would make this a lot less painful, so I am wondering if there is a way for me to essentially flag things that I know I will never care about so that CAS doesn't have to load them?

At this point, the only idea I have is to try and modify the package files containing the clothing and flagging things I don't want to hide so that they don't appear, which presumably means CAS wont bother loading them. I've pulled clothes out of these files before so I could flag them for other categories and add them back into the game as custom package files, but I've never attempted to actually modify the game package files themselves, and before I try, I thought I would check and see if anyone knew if that would work, or if there was a better way that doesn't involve me spending a lot of time doing this?

Download NRaas MasterController. In-game check master controller settings/CAS/Show in Compact Form: Clothing -> True.  There are also another two options to compact accessories and hats . That should help you in loading faster all the clothes .

Hi, Randox -- It's possible that someone else may know a way to flag things like this without mods, but I don't, sorry to say.  DanBrunetu described a way to partially help with nrass, so that may be all you need. But if you are interested in hiding some items completely, not just duplicate presets; or if you don't want to install MC just to hide some clothes, you may need something else.

This is not really a forum for modding, and so I'm not going to get into a long discussion of specifics, but long story short: If you want to hide items, you DO NOT want to modify the game package files (I think you are talking about making alterations directly to the fullbuild01, etc, right?).  No no no.  Too much potential for all kinds of gigantic problems/certain doom doing that.

But hiding items is indeed possible through the use of mods, and in fact there are already mods out there that do a lot of what you are asking for but they do it a slightly different way than you describe.   I can explain it to you in a PM if you like, or direct you to tutorials or just the mods themselves if you are OK with downloading other creators' mods.  Just drop me a PM if you re interested.

Thanks, I think I really needed someone else to tell me not to mess with the core game files (I can't remember which ones have the clothing, but yeah, if not the mainbuild than other packages that are just as important). I don't know the game reads them, so yeah, that's just a bad idea. Besides, what I was thinking about would probably take more hours than I would save in CAS loading times in a year, just finding some 20-30 articles spread through a few expansions so that I could create duplicates in other categories was a task that took around 4 hours last time (would be faster if I had figured out which expansions everything was in ahead of time). I will definitely take a look at master controller, since for some reason I have never really looked at it (even though I run three other nrass mods).

Incident, I'll definitely shoot you a pm. If there are some other mods that can do something like what I want, I'm definitely interested in taking a look.

EDIT: Seemed to have figured it out. Looks like the method for removing an item from CAS is nearly identical to the one I use to add additional categories to clothing, so something to do on a rainy day.

Hi, I know this post is from a question you posted a long time ago, but you mentioned you figured out a way to hide or remove clothing in Sims 3 CAS to help improve the speed and I was wondering if you remember how to do this and if you could help me out. Thanks!

Our focus isn't really on mods for the game. You may want to try either ModtheSims or TheSimsResource to see if they may be able to help. As they seem to be more focused on mods for the game.
