Gardening cutting bug?
« on: November 05, 2016, 06:10:09 AM »
Ok so this is my first time playing thru the Freelance Botanist aspiration and  i'm at the point it wants me to splice 3 plants. Ok well since i've got my ducks in a row I already know how and what to do from Carl's wonderful guide section on the subject. So I go out and get a few cuttings from things I havent grown yet and/or dont have in my garden right now and this is where my problem arises.

It this some kind of stupid game "Feature" that it DOSENT tell you what plant the cutting is from? I wanted to start with grafting a cherry cutting onto an apple tree since, well for one thing they are both trees and I thought perhaps tress had to be grafted to trees and plants to plants.....etc. But it's asking me what I want to graft onto the tree and the game can see that I have 3 different types of cuttings and 2 of a fourth. But they are all called "Spliced Garden Shoot" ARGHHH  >:( >:( is this REALLY the way they programmed this? I have to go out and get one cutting at a time so I can remember what kind it is when I get back to my garden to know which plant I want to graft it to? Please for the love of god tell me this isn't WAI......

Thanks

Well I found this: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4-Bug-Reports/FIXED-Spliced-Garden-Shoot-inventory-glitch/m-p/5030649/highlight/false#M19234
And even though it's marked as solved it only addressed a small part of the issue. So apparently this is one of those problems that just never got fixed.

Hi @Rangervegas! I have had exactly the same problem. My only work around was to actually harvest the plants rather than take cuttings.. plant them in the household garden and then once they start to grow you are able to take a cutting and graft (you know you are ok when you click on the cutting and it tells you what type of plant it is)

If you try to do this on any wild plants it simply will not work. If the cutting doesn't tell you what type of plant it is, you know not to bother grafting it .. just throw the shoot away.  Hope this helps!

We have a thread about this bug here click

Technically it is not the same bug as the original grafting bug you discovered had other issues with the herb plants and with the cutting becoming glitched in the sims inventory and not being able to be thrown away. This bug does not quite do that. It is one of the problems caused by the last patch. Before the patch the grafting was working beautifully with all the cuttings named so you could easily tell what you cutting to graft/choose etc. The devs are usually pretty good at getting fixes out so hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Sorry you are finding it frustrating @Rangervegas  but when it is working as intended grafting is a really neat feature. So, in answer to your question... is this REALLY the way they programmed this? The answer is categorically no. This is just a temporary bug.  :)

I've made a specific thread to try to keep all the patch related bugs in one thread.. it starts here click

@KTK10

I've never been able to "throw cuttings away" with my sims. If they're no longer needed, they just stay forever in their personal inventories. How do you discard them?

You can't drag them to the "sell" area to get rid of them. You have to click on each cutting, one by one, and select "throw away." Quite annoying when you've run around taking a lot of cuttings to quickly level gardening. :)

@reggikko

That's great to know! When my game starts lagging, I obsess over getting rid of everything I don't need. So thank you!

Yea thanks for the extra info. I'm gonna see if I can try KTK's idea also if I can find ones that can be harvested. TBH I can't even really remember now which cuttings I took except for the cherry tree one. LOL

No worries, remember that for a plant to grow etc your sim has to be actively on the same lot or in the same neighborhood which can mean over night and most of the next day or two in some instances. The Always Welcome trait would be handy for this as it means your sim can temporarily crash at another sims house while waiting for wild plants to spawn and grow. A good time for skilling up if you pick the right sims house to stay at!  :)

I noticed tonight when my sims travels off the home lot and takes a cutting, there is no name, and when I travel back to the home lot, when she grafts it, she goes through the process and movements but the graft stays in her inventory. BUT anything done on the home lot is fine.  :-\

@sdhoey That's exactly the same problem .. you think it's going to work because the sim is going through the processes, then.. nothing.  @oshizu .. sorry I was so late in responding, but am pleased @reggikko got in there quick for you!
