Replacing House on my current Lot
« on: June 12, 2016, 06:07:32 PM »
I have a couple with a large garden in their starter home. They have enough money for a bigger house. I would like to stay on the current lot and just replace the house with another pre-built house. Can this be done? I assumed if I just moved them to another lot with a bigger house, I will loose their garden. I know I could bulldoze the house and build one myself, but I would rather place one from the gallery. What is the best way to handle getting a new bigger house with a large garden?

Moving your garden: You would, of course, lose the layout of your garden, but you could stash each of your plants in your household inventory before moving.
After rebuilding, you would simply take them out, rebuy your pots/planters, then set up our garden again.

Replacing the house: Replacing the house is more of a hassle than moving.
You would need to put away all your stuff in household inventory (including everything outside, like your plants).
Then you could (1) bulldoze your entire lot or (2) take apart your house yourself, deleting room by room).
After placing the new house, take everything back out again.

Basically, whether you replace your house with one from the gallery or move, you'll still need to stash the things you want to keep (including garden) in your household inventory.
Good luck!

Thanks for the information. I guess it might be slightly easier, to just go into build mode on a new lot, put my new bigger house down then go back and put objects and plants in inventory and move. I was looking for a way to just keep the garden like I have it and just replace the house, but I guess any pre-made house would need a completely empty lot. I wasn't aware I could put trees and plants in my inventory. I figured I would just have to take one of each thing it produced (i.e. an apple, a basil ect) and replant the item. Looks like I have my work cut out for me.....lol....thanks again.

Try making your garden a room.  Use walls of some kind to enclose it so that it's recognized as a room.  Then you can save it to the gallery.  When you've gotten the house you want, place the garden room back.  Oshizu is right in that you need to save anything you don't want to lose in your household inventory, but if the garden is saved in a room, all of your plants will be intact when you put it back in.

Thanks, I'll remember that next time. I just put them all in inventory & got them moved last night.

Well, if you like the garden layout, and you haven't tried to recreate it yet, you can always go back to an older save file, and try copying your old garden to the gallery. You can even get the garden from the old save & place it in the new layout by going back to your new save, then load the garden from the gallery, if you've already begun working on the new lot layout.
