Question About Downloads from Sims3 Site
« on: December 10, 2010, 12:04:38 AM »
Hi! I've got a question about the free items one gets after purchasing the latest EP or SP (I have all of them) and the Sims 3 Holiday Gift Pack. FYI, I have also registered the games with EA. How do I transfer or copy the downloaded items to my game/computer at home which is not connected to the internet? What about the patches, can I also patch my game at home by copying the patch I downloaded from my other computer? Is this possible? Thanks for your help!  :)

To my knowledge, you must be connected to the internet to download anything from the Sims 3 site.

I'd reckon it's possible, but I have no idea how. Need a computer guru.

@athena, do you have at least the base game on a computer hooked up to an internet?  If you do, then you can download your free items or any store items to that game.  After you download, copy the folder named 'your name > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Downloads' to a thumb/flash drive.  You can then transfer the items in that folder into the same folder on your home computer.
I'm not sure about patching.  You might be able to download and choose 'save as' then save the patch to a thumb/flash drive.  Plug the thumb/flash drive into your home computer and try opening that file and installing the patch(s) from there.  Good Luck!

Hi mtglady! Yes, I do have the base game in the computer tied up to the internet. I will most certainly do everything you said because I haven't gotten any of the free items from EA and I have all the EPs and SPs. I will also try the patch. What about the free town, Riverview, can I also download that? Or only the items are found in the downloads folder? Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated!  ;D

athena, Riverview will download into 'your name > Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > InstalledWorlds' as will Barnacle Bay if you purchase that town.  You can do the same for that folder - just transfer to your thumb/flash drive and then transfer to the same folder on your home computer.
If you purchase any items they too will be found in the Downloads folder.
My 9 year old granddaughter just has The Sims 3 CAS and she is always sending me Sims and clothing she has 'designed'.  I, in turn, download patterns and Sims 3 clothing to my game, copy them to a thumb/flash drive and send them to her.  She is too young to play the game and they have no internet where she lives but she is happy helping me 'play'. We look forward to our exchanges each month.
Good Luck and have fun!
