Families disappeared after the game crashed

My English isn't that great and my technical skills when it comes to the computer is nothing to brag about as well, so I'll try to explain this as good as possible.

Recently I've experienced the same room mate-bug over and over again in starlight shores, where suddenly all my custom families have as many room mates as the household can contain, and there's no way to disable them (believe me, I've tried every tip I could find on here). Yesterday I decided to move my families to the simbin with their houses and create a new Starlight Shores save to see if that would work. Unfortunately, shortly after I placed my families in the new world the game crashed and they have now dissapeared. I've tried looking online to see if I could find a solution but so far nothing's worked.

Please help, I really loved the families that dissapeared

If you have unwanted roommates in your home, go to your smartphone or computer, - Select >Real Estate and Travel Services->Roommate Services->Disable Roommate. If they are already in your household, you may need to ask them to move out.

The thing is I've already tried disabling the roommates, but there's no option on my computer or my phone to do so. The only thing I can do is send them away, but they'll still appear as my roommates in my relationships or a new roommate will move in to take their place.

I tried restoring the backup for Starlight Shores but the families were already gone in that one as well. I guess they're gone forever. This has happened before so I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

If you've already tried a previous save game. There may not be much you can do. It's highly suggested to save your game often, using Save As. Give it a new or similar name each time. So you know what save files go together. This way if something odd happens in game. There is a save to go back to.

You can also save your household at different stages of gameplay as well, in case something happens to them during gameplay.

That happened to me in the past in one game.

In that game, I experimented with changing the residential lot assignment from the usual assignment to the assignment that permits room mates (apartment if i remember rightly). It then proceeded to fill up my household with room mates.I tried
- the whole log out, turn off computer, turn on computer, clean caches, log in again, return to same game routine, but it kept happening happened.
- changing the assignment back to normal, but it kept happening. This was both before and after (1) above.
- saving the family to bin and returning it into the same, as well as different, worlds, but it kept happening. This was both before and after (1) above.

What I ended up having to do was restart the game from scratch. I had only just started, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

I guess I could live with this glitch, the only thing that sucks is I lost two of my favourite sim families. I'll follow the tips from now to make sure it doesn't happen again

You don't necessarily have to live with the glitch. With a little bit of work I think you might be able to get your game to work better again. This means starting over with a fresh Sims 3 folder and re-creating your favorite families. But I think it's doable.
