Connecting a basement to the outside
« on: April 29, 2016, 08:12:22 AM »
Hello everyone,

I recently decided to improve my lot (which is a pre-made one from Twinbrook) and built a simple garage, four walls above the ground and a door, nothing fancy. Then, I wanted a basement. Since there is no room for a staircase in my house, I decided to build it in the garage but still used all the space underneath the house for the basement itself.
After that, realizing the staircase was taking the space used by one of my two vehicles' parking spot, I stored both of them in the basement.
What bothers me now is that even though sims have a way of teleporting their cars onto the road, there is no realistic way for those cars to leave the basement.

So what I'm looking for here is a way to turn that basement into some sort of personal underground parking lot, while using the garage section of my lot as a slope connecting the basement to the ground level and the road.

I've already tried this sloped driveway tutorial and it's pretty much what I would like - all it would need is a few spaces connecting that garage to my basement but I don't think it's possible. So I reverted back to my ground-level garage, mainly because I no longer had access to the basement since I had no staircase. Maybe you guys have a way to make it work? I'm willing to demolish everything that's underground and start over, if needed.

Here's what it looks like right now. The cars are on the basement, but not on the picture.

Thank you for reading and possibly providing me with a solution.

Hi!

To get an underground garage you can't use in the in game basement: instead you have to use a combination of cheats, foundations and regular walls. There are lots of tutorials on youtube for doing this, and there is a guide specifically for doing what you want to do here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/buildedit/houses/multilevel/

The section entitled "Using a Foundation as a Basement" will be the one you need to read.

If you don't already know how to use the constrainfloorelevation false cheat, I suggest you read the guide on that (found here: http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/?topic=9065.0) and try playing around with basements made from foundations and walls on an empty lot to practice before you bring it into your home. It's quite simple once you've got the hang of it but it can be tricky when you're first starting out.

After you've got the basement from the foundation sorted, all you'll need to do is gradually lower the terrain down to the garage door. And then you'll have a realistic way for your cars to get in and out of your basement garage.

Read the guides I linked above and hopefully you'll be able to sort out your garage problem. If you have any other questions, don't be afraid to ask them in reply to this post!

Happy Simming,

Clarrkeyy :)
