Purchasing Books Your Sim Wrote
« on: October 15, 2014, 05:20:36 PM »
I wanted to know if this was actually a thing, because I think it would be awesome if my creative guy who only got the writing aspiration because he finished the artist aspiration (ikr?) could read his own published books to his kids. So I want to know: Is there a way I can have copies of the books my sim wrote while still publishing them and making money off them?

Welcome to our Forum.

I haven't played with the writing skill yet, but Carl has a guide for writing that may help you.  As for reading to children, I believe it has to be specifically a childrens book.

And, what is ikr?

IKR is "I know, right," Pam.

As far as I know, the books your sim has written aren't available for purchase. I've tried this and unless my game is bugged, it's not possible to purchase books that were written by one of your household sims.

An adult sim can read any book to a child sim once the book is off the book shelf. Children's books are shorter, however, and therefore more quickly read. Children can read books in any genre, just like adults can.

Yeah, the thing I was wanting to know was about buying books that my sims had published. Sadly, for both my children and my nerd-brain aspiration sims, that is not the case. Thanks for confirming that I wasn't missing something obvious (I tend to do that a lot)

Your sim can write Children's books, though, and read them to his or her children. As soon as they write the book, it shows up in their inventory.

You cannot purchase books you have written and published. But, you can make a copy of the book before you publish it. Take the book out of inventory (place on a table, floor, wherever) then click on it and select "Create Copy". The option will include the price (why it's not free or at least minimal in cost I don't know. My screenplay cost 48 simoleans). A copy of the book will placed in your sim's inventory. You can do this as many times as you want. After copy the book, then click on the mailbox and choose one of the publishing options. One copy of the book will disappear and you will retain the other(s). Note: I've not verified if you have 10 copies that after publishing you will have 9 but it's what I would expect. I created one copy and then published it and had one left.

Ah, that's good to know. Always wondered why you couldn't get a copy of the book you wrote.
