Where did my Sim get the "Expert Repair" option?

I have a Sim who is able to do "Expert Repair" when repairing an item.

     How did she get this option?  She has not maxed Handiness.

     Is it a hidden trait passed done from her handy ancestors?

     Or, is it a perk from being in the Scientist career?

     Does it make an item permanently "Unbreakable"?

So many questions ...

Does anyone know the answers?

I can't quite remember but I think it is linked to completing the Nerd Brain aspiration and/or how many items your sim has actually repaired. I should know as most of my sims have this option as I always max handiness and complete the Nerd Brain aspiration because instant repair is so handy. I know for sure it is not a hidden skill and it does not make the repaired item unbreakable unless you actually apply that upgrade.

I believe it's a perk from a certain level in the science career.

My sim was only level 7 in Handiness and had not started the Nerd Brain or any other Knowledge aspiration.  I think it might be related to the scientist career as well.  I have had other handy sims and had not seen this yet.  This is my first time playing a Scientist past level 3.

 @Caterina sorry, I really just can't remember and there doesn't seem to be much info out there about this. All of my sims that have this interaction are also scientists, lol I guess I play a lot of handy, nerdy scientists! Next time I get a chance I'll make one of my scientists quit and see if the expert repair option is still available or not. 

I think the benefit of expert repair over instant repair is that expert repair doesn't use any upgrade parts up. I remember being pretty thrilled to discover this interaction but obviously not enough to take decent notes! *face palm*

@tjtemple can you remember what level of the career this kicks in?

I want to say that I noticed it around level 5 but I am not sure.

I can create a test file to check if the option is removed once she quits the Scientist career.

Also, perhaps I can play around with cheats and see if I can figure what level it is rewarded if indeed that is where it came from.
