Yes, we've had this option from the beginning; I did it once soon after the launch of the game. I don't remember how to initiate it though; I remember that it was something weird you'd have to do, like clicking on the reaper at a certain time or even the chess table, but it definitely worked somehow.

On the topic of death ........I know you can feed a ghost ambrosia to resurrect the Sim. Has anyone done the gostbusting profession and tried feeding any of the ghosts ambrosia to bring them back instead of banishing them? Curious about this.

In answer to your question, I have no idea, have not tried the ghostbusting profession yet.

Please start a new topic or put your question in the ghostbusting thread.

Do you need ambitions to use it?

If you mean the playing chess with the Grim Reaper part, then yes, you can do that without Ambitions. The apparent instant win exploit with it, I don't know, but I would bet my money that it would work in vanilla. :)

So, for future reference, for another sim in the household to play for that sim's life, you have to click on the chess set?  Huh, never in a million years would've thought that. :D  I have several elders who will meet grimy soon and I'll try that. ;D

I was going to try it with the elder sims that die of old age, but they are already a ghost when grimmy gets there.  I tried clicking on the chess set, but nothing came up to play with grimmy.  I was going to save a game and try doing away with a sim and see what happens, but I could not bring myself to do that, lol.  Will just have to wait for some unfortunate acccident.

No,  what you do is while grimmy is yelling at the ghost, when it's pleading etc., you click on GRIMMY not the chess set. Lots of confusion here.  ;)

I have tried that, I don't know how many times and there is no interaction, so not sure if it is just me or my game or whatever, but I tried that a long time ago, because in sims2, you could beg for their life.  When I first got this game and someone died, I tried clicking on grimmy and nothing, unless it is time sensitive and you have to time it just right.

I heard about this section from Pam, so I figured I'd post what I found in reference to culture.

http://www.chessville.com/reviews/SchachaufOlgemalden.htm In this link, go down one set of pictures, to the right. There's a painting of Death playing with a man.

I also know there's a book based on this concept. The devil challenges a family in chess for their lives, and the devil wins, and kills the family, save for the son. The son goes to his uncle, who begins training him in chess. I don't remember the name, but I know it was about junior high when I read it.

That's interesting, clicking on grimmy to play chess when you have to click on the chess table to play for any other sim.  I've tried clicking on grimmy and like salty says, it must be a timing thing cause there's no play chess interaction. :-\

The music that plays when Grimmy appears freaks me out, so I hate it when Sims die. LOL Thus, I'm not too keen to try and force this feature.

However, a suggestion I may offer to those who can't seem to get this feature to work, is a guess on my part by using a little gameplay logic. If you're trying to click on the Grim Reaper to initiate the chess game and it's not working, make sure you're active Sim is another member of your household, not the Sim who's dying. Remember, it should be someone else bargaining for another Sim's life, not the Sim bargaining for their own.

See how that works out.

I appreciate that you're trying to help, ColliCub.  But this topic has been thoroughly discussed and had been put to rest 10 months ago.  I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't revive a dead thread unless you have something really earth shattering to add to the discussion.  In this case, I don't believe your information was important enough to bring it back.
