A kerfluffle regarding installation
« on: December 31, 2015, 12:23:41 AM »
Hey all, long time no see!

Anywa, I'll get right to the point: Origin had a sale after Christmas. Expansion packs were only ten bucks each. Loon wanted in on that, so I picked two: Showtime and Into The Future (I have all of the other expansion packs except for Island Paradise).

Showtime installed right away, but much to my dismay, Into The Future encountered some problems. The installation was going off without a hitch when it suddenly crashed. I was about to screech like a pterodactyl as I am wont to do when things go wrong, but upon checking my applications folder, Into the Future was installed. Origin also said Into the Future was installed, so I stopped mid-screech and launched the game.

Instead, the University Life launcher appeared. I loaded up the game and there was no Into the Future content despite saying it was installed. Origin says that Into The Future is installed, but the uninstaller doesn't give the option to uninstall Into The Future.

I'm quite perplexed and am hoping for an easy solution that doesn't require reinstalled the whole darned game, because I'm not going to do that; I don't have the time.

Any suggestions?

My computer, though a Mac, is a beast when it comes to running games. I have my hard drive partitioned three ways and can easily run Skyrim at 60fps with no trouble, so I highly doubt that this is a hardware problem.

My computer Specs:

+ MacBook Air running OS X 10.8.4 Mountain Lion, Windows 7, and MS-DOS (Sims in on the OS X side)
+ 125 GB of memory, 63 GB still available
+ 8GB of RAM
+ Intel HD Graphics 5000 1024 MB

While in Origin, right-click Repair game.  If that doesn't help. You may want to run Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner.

Run Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner
https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download (Standard Edition is Free)
-- This helps clean up temporary files, internet cache files and other files that are left behind that are no longer being used.

Then try installing ITF again.

However, I think the best thing to do would be a fresh uninstall of the whole game,  run Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner and then reinstall the game.

You run into less problems when you do a fresh install.

** But if you'd rather see if you can find tips on how to maybe not do that, then it might be better to contact EA's Customer Service.

Unfortunately, the "Repair Game" option doesn't show up when I right-click on the games. So I'm stuck there.

What's been suggested when that happens is to reinstall Origin to see if that helps bring back the repair button. Other than that contact EA's Customer Service for more help.

This has actually happened to me also. Try going to "Sims 3 Uninstaller." Which should be in your Sims 3 file under the applications file. Uninstall Into The Future. It should say "download" now in Origin.

Some tips:

Don't move your laptop/portable as that can mess the installation up.
Letting the screen shut off can mess the installation up.

I hope this helps, I had the same issue and contacted customer support.  :)

I just want to say your integrated graphics is amazing. You should not have any issues with your memory running out either with that RAM as along as Cinder has access to it.

The main problem is that it doesn't show up under the uninstaller. I've already tried that. I'm considering manually deleting everything relating to Into The Future to see if that fixes it.

I got this Mac custom build just so that I could play the Sims when I was in high school. It's starting to show its age but when it comes to games, it's a beast.

Go with that - manually uninstall ITF, but don't forget to run Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner as it helps delete some of the registry entries left behind when uninstalling

Ccleaner for Mac -

Let us know how that works?
