Empty inventories *Fixed!*
« on: December 06, 2015, 06:30:31 AM »
Sorry if this isn't in the right place, just wanted to see if anyone else had an inventory problem since the latest patch? When I went into the game - after patching, all my Sims' inventories were empty. Disappointing but not the end of the world, until I tried to buy my teens new homework. Still nothing in the inventories. I harvested some plants - empty - bought some potions - empty. Repaired the game, went back in, bought homework and guess what. Empty.

No mods installed at the time, by the way, I always take them out to patch, repair, instal, whatever, and run the game without putting them back at first.

Has anyone else got this problem? If so, is there a solution?

Solution: Try running the game without mods, due to new updates cause a lot of broken mods and custom content. Move the Mods folder to the desktop or some where safe before updating. And run the game first before adding in any mods or saved games to make sure things are running okay.

Chances are, the mod is broken at the moment due to the patch.  I would recommend playing un-modded until you have confirmation from the mod creator(s) that the mod works fine with the new patch or they release a new version that fixes their mod.

If you're 100% sure there's a problem still with that mod, you should report it to the creator so it can be fixed.

Have you cleared your game cache files?

I have - I do it as a matter of course before I play anyway but I've just cleared everything again to be sure, put the mod back, went back in and tried to put something out of the fridge into an inventory and it disappeared again. Tried buying a book, still nothing. Tried on the new game that I'd just been playing unmodded and nothing would appear in the inventory with the mod in.

I'm going to have to see if it's a specific element or the Command Centre itself, aren't I? I'll be gone some time ...

It's always good to disable mods for a while after new expansion / gamepack hits anyway because usually there are big changes in coding especially if the mods in question alters gameplay.

Yes, I always do, but this one's supposed to be OK with the new patch and originally I had the problem unmodded with a new game. But having cleared all the caches again, inventories are fine in a new game without mods so that's obviously where the problem lies. Pity, as it improves the gameplay no end!

Thanks anyway.

There's a list on the USA official forum of which Mods are broken with this Dec patch also which mods have been updated. This list has been compiled by luthienrising and is constantly being updated.

There is no such guarantee that a mod is 100% compatible with all future patch. I remember in Sims 3 I though the no intro mod would never, ever need a patch until EA suddenly threw in new maxis logo. While yes the old one is not totally broken, just still show the maxis logo, eventually that need to be replaced with newer one to completely disable the intro logo.

I keep wondering if the mods are worth the hassles they cause.  Seems they are more often than not the culprit with a problem  Of course, you can still have problems as I do and I never use mods or cc.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

There are some amazing mods out there that make the game feel very different. I think it's more about keeping your mods and CC in very organized sub folders and remembering to take them all out when you encounter a bug before trying anything else. It does seem that a high percentage of problems revolve around outdated mods. Luckily there are many still active modders out in the community who are busy updating their work and sharing it all for free.

I'm quite sad that one of my favourite modders no longer updates her/his mods and so can't be used after the Dec patch.
