Social worker not showing up

I placed my pet up for adoption, but the social worker didn't come for 2 days, and I kept getting a message saying something along the lines of "there are no adults at the household, be sure that there is an adult here when the social worker comes back" even though I had several adults on the lot. I really didn't want the pet anymore and the social worker wasn't coming, so I triggered the pet's age transition until the grim reaper came. But now I'm still getting the message about the social worker, and I can't go into edit town mode, or move my sims into a different house because "a social worker is on its way." Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Is the social worker affected by the "resetsim *" cheat? I can suggest you try it.

If what Junan mentioned doesn't help, you may need to go back to a previous save.

I've had a similar situation happen (game stuck in an action) and all I'm able to do is go back to a previous save.
