Sims won't go to work

Having an issue with my Sims going to work, they go, work for an hour, then appear back home, and it seems the only way I can stop them doing this is to follow them to work and toggle the camera outside the appropriate building.
 I saved and quit the game, and when I went back in it was exactly the same, also I don't know whether this is connected, but 3 maids show up at my home lot, and stay for 3-4 hours, and don't do anything, then leave and charge me, I dismissed the first couple but all of them seem to do it, I haven't got late night as yet, I haven't used any cheats and have no custom content.

That has happened to me before too. But it only happens with certain sims and others go to work fine. Maybe it's a certain trait or something?

I had this probelm as well and after trying several options quitting the job then restarting worked for me. Kind of a shame because he was at level 8 (he got rehired at 4) but better than not going to work at all.
Moving your sim to another house also works sometimes. If you are lucky, moving sort of resets them.

It wouldn't be a trait is it that they are driving home or just appear there?

Mine actually drive home I think.

Mine drive too, but it is a quick drive, and they just appear home. Thanks for the suggestions guys, am going to try moving house.

I noticed when I first went back into my dynasty, two sims were at work, but the icon didn't show in the corner.  When I checked their work journal, they were missing work.  I just clicked on "go to work" and they went back.  I have had a couple of sims too, that they would go to work and then stand outside until I clicked on go to work.  Weird.

How high is your free will set?

I keep it on high, I don't think I have ever changed it.  It was probably a one time thing upon loading the town.  Otherwise, it has only happened one other time, so at least it is not a big issue, but it is annoying when it happened.

Just recently I was playing one of the new families in Late Night.  Things were going fine, one of them had the Actor LTW so she was working at the film lot.  After several weeks of play she was up to level 7 of the career track, when suddenly she refused to go to work.  When I clicked on the "go to work" button it would cancel as soon as it became active.  I tried "resetsim" but that didn't seem to solve the problem.  I had her run all the way down to the film lot, but when I clicked on the building to 'go to work' she wouldn't go in, and again the action was canceled as soon as it went up into the left hand corner.  I tried moving her to a different house, but that didn't work either.  I really think she's stuck with failing her LTW at this point! 

So what would happen if for example this were a Dynasty game?

There was another thread that I had put an answer that someone said had worked.  They had the same problem and they made their sim take an unpaid day off.  The next scheduled work day, the sim went to work and it was fine after that.  I have not tried that yet, I think I only had one that did that and I just had them change jobs.  I guess it would be worth a shot to try it out.

I guess my sister tried that idea and it did not work, maybe it does in some cases, but it did not in hers.  I guess this just another issue we will have to deal with until there is a fix.  What am I saying, bugs still have not been fixed from Ambitions.  Oh well, hopefully someday.  I know one thing, it will be a big patch to fix everything that has gone wrong in these games.
