Yes I agree that pluck for inspiration takes too long, sometimes all it needs is 30 mins but sometimes it took more to complete. Cloudgaze/stargaze is indeed powerful but of course only available for outdoor retreat. I also think that they way overdo the Inspired emotions looking at how easy it is to get 8h buff while all other emotion is struggling to reach 6h. Yes Energized could reach 6h but this require you to upgrade the coffee machine which in itself need level 6 handiness compared to only lvl 3 instrument for pluck for inspiration that last full 8hrs.

It is actually extremely difficult if you play normally to reach level 10 by the end of young adult. You have to choose between charisma path or make connection path. Charisma is less time consuming since at least three days is enough to max it but only offer the ability to raise performance every two days I believe and could still fail. Make connection is safer but took longer to get. Of course if you are not using any kind of challenge you could always drink young age potions cloned many times but in my opinion, they should just buff up entrepreneurial reward by making it give passive boost to performance gain instead giving some bonus that make you promoted in one day randomly.

It also help if the befriend co-workers is actually working or they implement the boss system where we can beg for promotions like in Sims 3. Or at the very least make it so that people using normal lifespan actually experience faster promotions.

One good way to help a sim at work to stay if not in the ideal mood then at least happy, is to have another sim write a Book of Life and then  capture the working sims Epic Saga. While at work have your at home sim read the working sim's Book of Life... this will top up the working sim's needs just like a moodlet solver. The benefit being that the working sim can now have full needs the entire time they are at work.

Also if the working sim should become stressed from working hard, the at home sim can read the Book of Life and this reduces the time of the stress moodlet. Keep reading the working sims Book of Life until the stress moodlet goes away. Usually takes about 3 readings.

The at home sim could actually  be at the park or any other lot, as long as they have the working sim's Book of Life in their inventory they can read it wherever they are.

Of course, you need to have a sim complete the Best Selling Author aspiration to be able to write a Book of Life but if you dedicate a few days to this it isn't that difficult to complete.

One of the best ways to keep a sim in the ideal mood for the entire working day is to use the cow plant. Get a sim in the mood you need, say focused. Feed them to the cow plant once, then milk the cow plant. This will give you a focused drink which, when drunk, will give a sim a 12 hour moodlet. If you have the cloning machine, you can clone and endless supply of these cow plant essences. Easy to drink, takes one sip... and your sim is ready for work in an instant.

If you don't have the cloning machine then you will need to use either a moodlet solver on the 'eaten' sim or take multiple baths using the most expensive bath until the 'drained' moodlet has gone. If you feed a sim to the cow plant with a 'drained' moodlet they will be eaten again and die. Once the 'drained' moodlet has gone, get your sacrificial sim into the correct mood you want... and feed them to the cow plant all over again.

Using these techniques and a few other tricks I regularly max a career in about 20 sim days. So my sims can max a career during their young adulthood leaving them to do something else when they become an adult.

The cow plant only gives focused drink?  Does it gives any other moodlet drink?

@Nutella From what I've read, the cow plant will give a drink based on the mood of the Sim that gets eaten, as long as the Sim doesn't die.

Nice.  Don't play with cowplant much, but with the cloning machine I can see this will become very useful.

Since this is a question about careers, I'm going to go ahead and move it to the careers and money making board.

You can get any emotion that you want... just put your sacrificial sim into that emotion and feed them to the cow plant.  :)

For the base game jobs, there's usually an at-work option that will put you in the right mood for the job (study the classics for writing, for example). The note says that you will lose work progress if you choose this, but I've found that actually you gain. The emotion isn't always the one you want, though. I think the option for Tech Guru make you happy instead of focused.

The only thing you need to remember on passive career is avoid Tense at all cost. And I mean tense on the Job not Tense after you come home since it is easily remedied. Tense give 0 performance at normal tone while forcing your sim to work hard only barely moving it a little. So it is better if you didn't have carefree, just work hard while the ideal mood is on, switch to special action that give you the right mood on some jobs. If the action didn't give correct mood, just work normal or try socialize with coworker if your social is low.

I guess I should conduct a research on how fast could you get promoted in a career.
