testing a few things
« on: May 29, 2015, 09:55:02 PM »
Hey guys, I'm testing a few things and how they survive the gallery and need a little help. I've uploaded a room to the gallery called Test. It's a study and my Origin id is Oz-Twinmum
I'd really appreciate it if a few people could download it into a game and see how it looks compared to this pic.
Do you see everything that's in my picture? Re the two tables still joined? Is the plant the same size and is the red end table up in the air?

Please let me know if you see anything different or if it's all the same.

Thanks

@Twinmum

Hi, I just tried downloading your room into a practice file.
The rest of the house is the tallest height, so the same goes for your room.

Comparing the two rooms, I picked up your Medicine, Essence of Happiness, and a bookdisplayThinRWSpecArt_01 (or something like that).
My room includes the Vociferate, exam bed, the three drafting tables (two on the left are joined), filing cabinet, and ficus...they're all the same size and in the same location as your image.

However, your image shows overhead illumination of some kind slightly left of center and a green three-sided rectangular thingy on the right.  The room on my lot has no lighting and no green frame thingy.
The room is completely dark.

Hope this helps.  :)

The rectangles are debug lighting and should be visible in build mode. The one on the right is actually through the wall, that's why in the pic it only has three side. These don't put out a lot of light in live mode, so maybe I should have included a few more.

I just rechecked and I am in Build mode, but don't see any rectangles or illumination (although I have no idea what debug lighting is).  I tried changing the wall height to the other two settings, but they still didn't show up. In Live mode, the room remains unlit.

For your reference, I'm not using any mods.

Debug items are only available when using a cheat. Most items in the photo are not generally available in buy mode, that's why I was testing them. Strange, I thought if anything was going to show up while others didn't, my guess would have been the lighting being there.
I'd be very interested to see if anyone else gets the same or different results.
Thanks  @oshizu

I think I found the reason the lights don't show up. I had a friend download it too and the same thing happened for her.. everything was there but the lights. I even downloaded it myself and got no lights, but I found out something. When I deleted the original room from my lot, the lights remain, so I uploaded the room again with lights but this time I uploaded it as a lot instead of a room (called lot test if anyone is interested) I doownloaded it again and the lights came with it :-)   small victory for me

I'm glad you figured out why the lights weren't showing up.
By the way, if you don't mind my asking, what are you testing?
Are you preparing to upload a different type of lot than usual?

Just doing a bit of a guide that includes how things behave when uploaded to the gallery. Early on, resized items and hidden objects didn't transfer to the gallery, but it seems that they have changed that. I knew that they had addressed the size thing, but wasn't sure about the hidden objects.

By hidden objects, you mean the lighting that didn't show up?
Or objects that a simmer buys using the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat rather than unlocking the objects through gameplay?
Sorry I'm so dense.  My last question, promise....

lol, it's ok. If you don't ask, you may never know.
Hidden objects are revealed with the show hidden objects cheat. They include things like the lighting and things you sim might use in some activity, like a toothbrush for instance.  There is also the cheat to ignore the need for a sim to unlock an item through gameplay. My little test room included things revealed with both these cheats (the filing cabinet is an unlock item) and they all seemed to transfer to the gallery  :D

Thanks for your detailed answer.
I'd always assumed that the hidden objects were items that I had to find in-game (like collections) or career unlocks.  So hidden objects would be those used by the game that the player is not usually able to purchase in Buy Mode?

I recently used the bb.showhiddenobjects command to buy a satellite dish for a challenge. I should just look around at the other items available....

Yes, things like collectables are hidden objects, as well as fruit trees and such. Things that appear in game but can't be purchased are all hidden objects.

Thank you for explaining this so patiently.
I learned a lot from you testing.   :)
