Burned terrain from fire
« on: April 19, 2015, 02:16:23 AM »
Hi everyone! My grill caught fire and burned up some of my terrain. I've tried erasing the terrain, re-painting the terrain and even cleaning the terrain but the soot stain still stays. Is there any fix to this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank You!

Not very sure if this will help... but have you tried going into build mode, laying down floor tiles over the burnt area, then going back into live mode and getting a sim to mop the floor? This works with puddles around plants etc so it might work. Also sometimes when you travel away from your home lot with your sims then travel back home things get reset etc.

For puddles on terrain, you can also make neat sims mop them. If you click on the burned area and there is option to clean it but grayed out then you definitely need to put flooring / neat sim to clean it.

I haven't found a way to clean it yet.  I had a fire that burned through a wall and went onto the grass. There isn't any option to "clean" the grass and if I try to lay tiles I'm told I need a room.  I used to lay tiles outside so I could get straight edges on my terrain paints and now I can't.

This is the same fire that caused Mom and Dad to calmly leave the house and stand on the sidewalk, leaving their daughter inside. The daughter was the only one to be upset because she was hungry and the fire stopped her from getting to the refrigerator.  Once the fire burned through the wall about six neighbors walked past it and never got excited or tried to help.  I finally told Mom and Dad to put out the fire.  I know I've seen others players have Sims who will put out the fire.  I'm wondering if they have told their Sims to do it or if happened autonomously.

Sometimes it happens autonomously, but I am always rushing to tell them to put out a fire as soon as I see it as well.

You can lay tiles outside as I do it in all my builds. You have to make sure you have the single tile and not the whole room tool selected. You can lay house tiles/wooden floor or the outside choices.  :)

During a fire you can click on your sims and have them 'route to safety' and depending on reward traits and just normal traits some sims will autonomously put out fires. If your sim has completed the Freelance Botanist aspiration then they will autonomously put out fires for sure. Most of the sims I've played with the self assured trait seem to put out fires too.

Yes I do have single tile selected.  I don't know what to say. I've tried it on quite a few lots in several games.

I didn't click on any of the Sims because I wanted to see what would happen autonomously.  I'm finding that what they do on their own seems a bit erratic.

If you can't lay the tiles outside, you could always build walls temporarily for the same effect, and just knock them down after you're done.  The value of the walls won't depreciate.

@RunAmokSims , I'm sorry you can't seem to lay floor tiles outside... the tool is 'By Tile" once you go into build mode and looks like a single flat square. Maybe you are trying to place the floor tile in an inaccessible place, I'm not sure, but even carpet and linoleum flooring can be laid outside when using the single tile option. Generally the Floor Patterns can even be laid right under existing plants, rocks, kids play equipment etc and even the planter boxes. I even went into the game and have tried all this again as I am typing to make sure I'm not giving you the wrong info! When you have the 'By Room' tool selected then nothing can be laid outside as... of course it's not a room.
I hope this helps!

It's okay.  I was really just letting the OP know it happened to someone else also and it wasn't a solo problem.  I'm not over obsessive or micro manage what goes on in my game. Just look at my user name.  ;D  Having scorched grass won't hurt them.

I just had the same thing happen. The ground got burned from a fire started while transforming some items with the SimRay gun. There was no option to clean the ground so I laid some floor tiles over the area and went back to live mode and still no option to clean the area. But when I went back into build mode and deleted the floors tiles the scorched area was gone and the ground was back to normal.

Good to know since I have a LOT of scorched earth from transforming.  Kids, do not do this at home! lol
