New updating problem
« on: October 29, 2010, 05:36:47 PM »
I am sorry to be a pain about this.

I was still having issues getting my launcher to download the updates. So I followed the guides on how to uninstall and reinstall my games (thanks Pam!) because I read that sometimes update issues can be born from the game not being installed in the default location.

Now I have got as far as loading the base game, when I go into the updater it says 'error unable to connect to EA Download Manager'. So now I am lost again :( I have EADM up and I am logged in, so I have really no idea what is going on now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated before my partner and I go into a deep sims withdrawal and have to enter some kind of therapy hehe :)

Many thanks in advance

When I got Ambitions, I was having problems with not being able to update or play the game.  I finally had to resort to uninstalling the EADM and re-installing all my disks and leaving the EADM off of my computer completely.  I can play my game fine this way, I just can't download things from the store nor can I get updates.  I went for over 2 weeks trying to solve the issue, but to no avail and so I just did the workaround.  I am getting Late Night on Monday and will continue with the same course as I really am tired of doing the un-install re-install dance (over 10 times with all disks).  I hope you find a solution that does not involve you having to bypass the way I did.

I found the updates via the EA forums, well not all the of them I still need the last update that that goes with late night.

I really want those additional functions for building :( maybe I will have to just go buy late night to get them but that seems a mighty waste of money seems as I am not at all interested in the additional game features at this point. I just got ambitions and I am busy exploring that right now.

Oh ho hum I will keep searching.

Would it be ok to put the link here for the manual install updates?

I think it would be helpful for other people.

Many thanks

Things continue to get worse instead of better.

I uninstalled and reinstalled again (now the third time) now the game wont load at all. I click on the play button in the game launcher and my entire laptop freezes before the game even begins to load. I tried to roll myself back installing just the base game and the same thing happened. Something is very wrong and I am sad and deflated with this game. :(

Have you done disk cleanup and defrag on your laptop?  Also, you may want to check the minimum requirements to run the game.  Lots of laptops simply are not equipped to run the game properly.  Sometimes it will run fine for awhile, then it quits.

Hi Pam,
I let my PC load the patch. I have not been able to play the game as it says it is incompatible. I spent 45 minutes on an expensive phone call to EA in Texas (I am in the UK). They said my PC has enough memory and he checked the system and said it is all OK. He sent me a link to the latest patch in an email which wouldn't open.
I called EA again and they are at a loss as to what more I can do. They were useless.
I have since installed and reinstalled some of the game. When it asked if I wanted to delete some of the contents I said no; as I didn't want to lose every thing.
I then did a complete hard drive clean up and defrag.
I have since reinstalled the disks and it still has the same problem. I am thinking that if I once again go for a total un-install and get the latest patch off their website tonight will it solve the problem?
I would be most grateful if anyone can help. I just want to get back to the start again. I had a fab game. I did backups but its all a bit sad now. Cue sobs......sniff- reaches for the kleenex.
