No option to write music

My level 8 pianist never gets the option to write songs.  I click on the piano but all that shows is the usual plunk for inspiration, play concert and songs.  How do I get him to write songs?  He can't progress any further without this.

I just tried setting a Sim's skill to level 8 piano using a cheat so I could test this out for you.  My Sim does have the option to write songs.  The only one available to write is a lively tune.  I'm not sure why your Sim wouldn't have that option.  I've never played using a skilled pianist before.

Sorry for the double post.  One thing that's confusing about the musical genius aspiration is that the step that asks you to write songs has the objective to reach skill level 6 of an instrument, but you do actually still need to reach skill level 8 in order to write songs.  I think you used to have to reach skill level 8 for this step.  Are you 100% sure that your Sim is skill level 8, and not skill level 6, piano?

Just double checked and yes, he's at level 8 but right at the beginning of the skill bar.  Maybe he needs to be further along in level 8.  I'll play him more today and see if that does it.

EDIT:  Went back in after he finished the two items in his queue, totally unrelated to music, and voila! The option to write a song was there.
