Whenever you leave your neighborhood, your plants stay exactly as they were when you left.  So, they'll be fine :)

When you go on vacation in Sims 4, time moves on back home (unlike Sims 3) be aware that if you have a cow plant, they will die if not fed for a few days. I found this out the hard way.. my sim took an extended vacation and when she returned home, the cow plant was a skeleton!

You can just put your cow plant into your household inventory before you go on vacation (or any time in fact). Then just bring the cow plant back out when you want to use it again. I do this a lot as I get a bit tired of feeding it every couple of hours or so.

The things you learn reading this forum!  Thanks, Playalot, I would never have considered that.  Can you put your other plants in your inventory?

You sure can. I always 'pack' away plants that I don't want in my game for the moment. Especially when my sims get pushed for time. Just remember to harvest them all first otherwise you'll end up with an inventory full of produce too. Not that it is too big a deal as you can just sell them all, only having to drag them out one-by-one can be time consuming if you actually want to eat the produce!

Ohhhh, never realised they could go in your inventory! I've never bothered much with gardening in the sims, but wanted to try the herbalism skill, so my sim planted the granite falls plants. Of course she has way too many plants, even with spliced ones, so she seems to spend a lot of her free time tending the garden. Nice to know I can put them away for a while.
