Alvi and Bunch Families
« on: November 15, 2014, 01:56:01 PM »
Hi, I'm just curious here. Is Mr Alvi senior and Lisa Bunch programmed to hate each other and be enemies? I'm just wondering b/c I've even changed the character traits and they *still* get neg reactions to the point of almost being enemies.

I don't really think that's likely since the sims is a sandbox game, it was maybe just that their traits conflicted, but considering you changed their traits it's pretty weird.. I do find with story progression though, that theres a few sims who even if I break them up a couple of times they always end up dating again (and it's pretty annoying since I break them up for a reason)

What has me curious is that "grandpa" is *always* being neg towards  his grandson. I've had other sims w/his traits who don't do this. I think sometimes EA does program certain features in to fulfill a "story line" so to speak.

Although falloutboi is right about it being a sandbox game and their mutual dislike just being something that happened, it is an interesting situation to think about. Iqbal and his older son, VJ, are enemies, and VJ and Lisa are very good friends and the game often pushes them to be romantic with each other. So he might not like Lisa because of the proximity to one of his enemies.

This is a little more suited to the Towns and Townies baord, so I'm moving it over there. :)

I do think sometimes EA has things already in place before you start the game, like certain people being enemies. But, I don't think any of them are programmed to act a certain way. But, since they already hate each other, they may not care that they have different traits.

I think the relationship status probably trumps traits as far as what default interaction will happen first.

Take Geoffrey Landgraab for example.  He's a charismatic sim with a good sense of humor, which generally means this sim will be friendly to just about anyone.  Yet if he runs into Nick or Vita Alto on a public lot, more likely than not, his first response will be to react to the presence of an enemy sim, and do that "no" symbol thought bubble over that sim's face and an angry animation.

This is also compounded by how the game remembers whether the last interaction a sim had with someone was positive or negative, and it affects the decay of a relationship. (I remember reading that in the Prima guide, anyway.) So if the last thing that happened between the sims was negative, it might create a higher chance for their next interaction to also be negative.
