Nvidia drivers updated - game crashing
« on: November 05, 2014, 08:30:31 PM »
Hi guys! I just updated my Nvidia drivers (via the Geforce Experience app) and got an error saying that my computer has the same or a newer version of the Physx software (whatever on earth that means). Supposedly the installation failed, but according to Geforce Experience I am now running the 344.60 driver, which is the new one. The Nvidia icon has also vanished from my taskbar, which is odd since it's always there. Everytime I update the drivers my game and graphics settings change - this time they did too, and I had to change them again. I have launched the game twice, with a restart between both, and both times it crashed within the first five minutes. I'm not sure if the crashes are caused by the installation error, by the new driver (if it's even installed) or by the change in my settings. Any help?   :'(

I'm running a brand new MSI laptop, Windows 8.1 with a NVIDIA Geforce 820M graphics card. All other requirements are above minimum and I've had no crashes so far. I have all EP's except Into the Future and no Store Content or CC except for ErrorTrap and Overwatch. My game is up to date and my caches are clean. If you need any more information please let me know!  :)

Sorry to double post but I just found out something different and really odd: I can't open the NVIDIA Geforce control pannel. Geforce Experience doesn't work properly either - When I open it I get a message saying that there is an error, then it loads the app but only the Drivers tab. I can't access the other tabs (Games, SHIELD, Preferences etc.)

Hi Eris,

Try running Ccleaner and it's registry cleaner, which will help clean up temporary files, internet cache files and other files that are no longer being used. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

Then go to MSI's website to grab the video card drivers and install them. If updating the video drivers don't work, uninstall the old one(s) and install the new one to see if that helps.

Hope this helps, :)

Thank MrsFlynn!

In the end it was more serious. I tried to go back to a previous driver version but I got the same errors, so I asked for help at Nvidia's live chat. The person there was great and tried pretty much everything, but nothing worked. It turned out that my computer had stopped detecting the card itself, because of the update errors. The person from Nvidia recommended I do a system restore and that's what I did. I have to say I have been complaining about Windows 8.1 ever since I got it, but this changed my opinion completely: I had installed Office that morning and Windows had automatically created a restore point, which was great. So everything is working fine now. And it turns out that Nvidia has an awsome customer service too... the people I talked to were great and I even got an e-mail from them yesterday asking if I had managed to fix the issue  :) .

Troubleshoot the conflicts between the game files and DEP feature:

1. Right click the Computer icon on your desktop.
2. Select Properties from the right-click menu options.
3. Click "Advanced system settings" link.
4. Click Settings under Performance.
5. Click Data Execution Prevention tab.
6. Select the option that lets you exclude certain files.
7. Just locate the following folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Game\Bin
8. You would find multiple files in the "Bin" folder.
9. Add all the .EXE files you find.
10. Click OK to confirm.

Now open the Origin.Change the Properties option of Game Sims 4 as follows:

1. Open the Origin.
2. Log-in there.
3. Click My Games.
4. Right click the Sims 4 icon.
5. Select Properties.
6. Add following line:
