Story Progression

So I started my first game of sims3 on a new computer recently, it wasn't until I checked the newspaper that I realized that a few townies had some kids. In sunset valley, there is a new clavell, i assume she's Xander's child. Then the Wolffs had a child. And Gunther and Cornelia broke up and Gunther started dating Ayesha (he just died, but lets hope a kids on the way!) and Cornelia started dating Iqbal. I'm so confused as I always thought Story Progression didn't work, did it fix with a new update or does it work when you install the game?

That's bizarre. You're running the game without mods, correct?

No mods in my game.

Have you checked your patches? It could have reverted back a few patches.

I may have to reinstall the Sims 3 because if townies are reproducing that would be awesome.
