Fertility Treatment
« on: October 25, 2010, 04:46:30 PM »
I have a question about the game mechanics of how the Fertility Treatment LTR works.

From Carl's Guide:
Quote
Fertility Treatment
Lifetime Happiness Points: 10,000
If you want to have a huge family, insist on one of your adult Sims taking this lifetime reward. It will boost the odds that your female Sims get pregnant when using WooHoo. Additionally, your Sims will be more likely to have twins or triplets. So, if you want to experience two or three babies at once in the game, this is the easiest way to accomplish that.

Does this mean that normal WooHoo might result in babies, or is that still only an outcome for Try For Baby? Is the result always multiple births? Also, once you have the LTR, is there a way to get rid of the effect when it's no longer wanted, or would my immortal YA's have subsequent multiple births after getting the LTR? And last, what happens when both parents have the LTR?

I am not sure about Conception from 'WooHoo' some have said it happens, but if it does it is very rare. The fertility treatment increases chances of Multiple Births and the likelihood to get pregnant. Once you have it, then you can't stop its effects and it can result in several multiple births. If both parents have it then the Chances are dramatically increased and Triplets becomes easier to get.

I agree, I would never say that just "woohoo" would result in pregnancy, but I have never had that happen.  The only thing I can tell you about the fertility treatment is, to just try for a baby, and do not do anything else, as far as listen to the kids station or watch kids tv, you will more than likely have one or twins, maybe, at least that is what happened to me.  I did nothing to encourage multiple births and only had one baby after my sim had two sets of triplets.  I would say, there again, this is a random occurance.  I experimented with this some time back.  I am sure there have been people that have gotten multiple births by doing nothing, except wait.  I guess there is actually no particular answer, except to try it out and see what happens.

In one of my 'for fun' games I gave one of my male Sims the fertility treatment after which he proceeded to romance (try for baby) a number of single ladies in SV (I believe it was 5 ladies). Without me having any control over what activities these females participated in during their pregnancies, every pregnancy resulted in twins. So I'd say that getting the fertility treatment LTR significantly increases the chances for multiple births with every pregnancy without watching the kids channel or listening to kids music.

Also, in my experience, when both parents have the fertility treatment there is a really good chance they will have triplets, as long as there is room in the household.

I am unaware if there is a method of removing any LTR that has been bought for a Sim.

My experience has been the same.  The fertility treatment on just one parent makes it easier to get pregnant with Try for Baby and the chances of twins are pretty good.  If both parents have the fertility treatment, triplets are often the result.  It doesn't do anything to regular woohoo.  Once you have the fertility treatment Lifetime Reward, you're stuck with it and whatever it produces.

There are other ways to get multiple births, though, without using the fertility treatment.  If you put your pregnant Sim in front of the television to watch the Kidz Channel for the entire pregnancy, there's a very good chance she will have twins.  Many people claim this is also true with Kids radio, but in my testing, it didn't happen.  If she only listened to Kids radio, it was a singleton.  However, if she watched a lot of the Kidz Channel on television, she'd have twins.  And I mean a lot!  More than just a casual couple of hours.  Mine had to be parked in front of the television all day for it to work.

And lastly, having the Family Oriented trait in the female has been causing quite a few births of twins.  I think this is something new that's been added by EA recently because it didn't used to happen.  This is what caused the surprise twins, Nectarine and Indigo, in my Dreamweaver Dynasty.  Carina is Family Oriented, but I was completely surprised by the twins because I've never had it cause multiple births before I started my Dynasty, and I'm big on families in Sims 3 and have had many Family Oriented females!  :)

Did the Family Oriented trait also result in Periwinkle and Chartreuse?

No, I gave Nectarine the Fertility treatment to get them.
