How to get created sims to meet?
« on: September 01, 2014, 02:26:08 PM »
I'm just a few weeks into playing sims 3, after finally upgrading from 1. I am sure there is an easy answer to this....

I created a bunch of custom sims, and they are all in my bin. I have been playing just one for awhile before deciding to move the rest into the same town in IP. Now everyone has their own place, but i can't seem to get any of them to meet. I have tried getting them all to go to the same place, but no one else is there except my active Sim. Then tried sending my sim to another's house but when i get there the option to "visit x household" is greyed out... The correct name is assigned, but I can't do anything. Also, when i am playing as a created sim and I go to town view on the map, none of my other created sims household's are on the map. I have to know where their homes are to go there. Where am i going wrong here?

Hiya,

If you have story progression on the sims you are controlling are probably out on the town when  you go there to visit. Try to hang out at one of their houses and they will probably show up eventually. Also, once you meet a sim once you can chat on the phone and build relationships that way.

In the future if you want to be able to interact with some more of your made sims, and you have room in your house, I would recommend you merge them with your active household rather than to move them into a house in town. Once they are in your household, they can be kicked out, but you have initiated contact with them already and you can get in touch with them over the phone.

Meeting sims in the "wild" can be tricky. Try to go places they tend to gather (big parks, venues and so on) you can zoom around town and watch from map view when your sim is busy with other things, and once you see one of the sims you are interested in, you can send your sim there.

Good luck!

Aha! Many thanks for the info! I am still getting over my amazement of all the advances to this game. At this rate, Sims 4 will render me dumbfounded, lol.

If i tried merging households now, after everyone is already in their own places, would i just end up making copies of the same people inadvertently?

If creating one big household then kicking people out, do evicted sims go back to the bin or on to their own places? How are household funds divided?

So, if you merge now there would be duplicates. But, since you know where you put them, you could evict them through edit town and then merge them with your household. That would put all of them in the same household.

If you evict them, some move into houses and some become what is called homeless townies (sims that don't have a house but live in the town). Another option is to move them out to specific houses, but that would require you to get quite a lot of money or the use of money cheats. Funds will not be distributed among the kicked out or moved out sims. Sims who don't live in the active household don't require money to get along.

I usually kick out sims if I don't require them to have a home (the homeless sims can still visit you, they just can't throw parties and invite you to them), if I require them to have a home I will buy them one when they move out. If I want them to have a specific job that is also a great time to get them started in the career before kicking them out.

Also, if you have the cheat enabled, "testingcheatsenabled on", you can left click on the mail box and click on the option to know everyone in town.  I have done that before when I started a new town.  That will usually get you going.  Good luck. :)

Yay! Ok, I'm loading up now :) I'm not above a few cheats, especially when they are as cool as the ones here.

I would have been seriously aggravated at this game if it weren't for this forum and guide. Thank you!

Another cheat I do sometimes when I go to a Sim's house and they're not there, I type resetsim [First Name] [Last Name] and they'd appear somewhere in their home lot. This is cheat is also handy when a Sim gets stuck or if the needs are low and you can't attend to them.

I will confess to making and placing prospective boyfriends for my Sims in the same town. The trick is to go and visit them more or less as soon as you have placed them - they will not have a gotten a job yet and are likely still to be home.

I don't know if the Social Networking skill is dependent on University Life EP or not, but if you have it, you can also (with sufficient skill) use the Sim Finder App to have your Sims meet up, so long as you can recall the relevant traits etc. to search by.
