China fishing bug?
« on: October 18, 2010, 04:09:24 PM »
So, my sim is in China and I'm getting him to fish as many 'local' fish as possible. Plus his inventory is stocked to the max with most fish bait possible. However I seem to have a problem with choosing bait when it comes to fishing for the koi fish. I have both plum and pomelo in his inventory however neither are coming up as bait, despite when I do 'inspect waters' the fish that require that bait are present.

Is this a glitch? Or something I'm doing wrong?

Malteser, I had this problem once - quite a while back- my sim could fish with other types of bait, but as you say, he couldn't use the correct bait for the fish.  I don't think I ever managed to fix the problem in that game, it was just badly glitched.  The only thing I can think of is that fishing bug where special seeds in the inventory are causing the problem.  Does your sim have any special seeds in his inventory?

I had this happen once and thought it was because my Sim had not fully read the fishing book for what they were trying to catch.  Even though the bait appeared and they purchased and read the book once, I still could not use that particular bait even though it was showing that I had the bait in my inventory.  So I had my Sim reread the book and then they could use the right bait.
I now make sure my anglers have reread the appropriate book again for that particular type of fish just before they head out and I haven't had any problems since (*knocks on wood* ;)).

Also, if you happen to have specifically plum and pomelo seeds in your inventory, the actual fruit won't appear on the list of bait.  It will show the seeds instead.

Do they really have specific plum and pomelo seeds?  If so, I have never found any.  ???

I thought maybe the seeds found in China might be plum or pomelo.  I can't say for sure, though.

That all makes sense actually. He has fully read all the fishing books in China - so that's ruled out. However he does have either plum or pomelo seed in his inventory (probably). I did notice the seed was selected as bait for one of the koi fish. They're the seeds that you can find at the abandoned barn. I'll remove those from his inventory and see if that causes it. I'll try it tonight when I get back home from work and let you know what happens.

I have planted a couple of those seeds from China and they became nice plum trees.

Wow - I always thought the seeds from the abandoned barn were onion or garlic plants - usual seeds found everywhere.  I normally just sold them but will have to try planting a few from my simmies next China trip to see what grows.
Thanks for the information.  I sure learn a lot from this site!  ;D

You can probably use those seeds as bait.  Then once they're gone, the pomelo and plum fruits will start showing up.
