I've just published a guide to the Handiness Skill, which includes Woodworking. I originally thought they were separate, but am glad to see you can finally make money by being handy

You can rummage through trash cans, not on your lot, and get a trash pile that you can look for parts.

Carl, for some reason when I try and load that new Handiness guide the page gets cut off. The other guides have not done that. So, I have no idea if it's on my end or what.

I've told browsers not to cache anything because the site changes daily, but some won't obey. F5 should fix most anything, should your browser disobey. I'll try the trash thing, Dellena.

When my sim was a child, her and dad (handiness sim) would go to the park.  She'd play and he'd start hitting the trash bins.    There's several in the park.

You can also haul up parts while fishing.
