I'm in dire need of understanding all these stinking emotions! LOL We're all noobs at this, but I think I'm more-so than others haha.

Since Carl's has always been my Go-To for the BEST guides on the net in regards to Sims, I figured this would be the place to ask.

I have found the easiest way to stack certain emotions for ease of leveling up skills is by placing several types of the items you dig up throughout the house. Be sure you enable their "Emotional Aura" or they will not help you. The effects last continuously until you walk away from the item, so useful for skills you are stationary. Not much use for gardening unless it is later in the game and have quite a bit to scatter throughout your yard.

Raw Minerals boosts Environment.

Refined Minerals boosts Focus.

Dolls boost Playfulness.

Not certain what boosts flirtiness/confidence/inspired. Happiness you get from maintaining the sims needs, seen it stack between +2 and +4.

You can also take showers, it shows the effect in the options for each shower type.

Or make teas which give three hour emotion boosts. Also be warned drinking tea takes awhile. So you can watch tv to raise your fun while yoru Sim drinks the tea. That or use the bathroom if you're into that sort of thing.

Calming Chamomile    No Effect
Ear Grey, Hot       Confidence
Healthy Green      Happy
Pitch Black       Focus
Run Oolong      Energy
Steamy Ginseng      Inspired

Not 100% yet on all this information. The Tea I still need to mess around with before I know all the facets dealing with it.

Yea, I have items in my house that grant inspiration and focus. 3 of the Inspiring items I got from the Culinary career in the Mixologist branch. The focus items I received from the Tech Guru career in the Pro Gamer branch. I'd really like to know the best way to get these emotions that last though. For instance, I know I can take a shower for a 4 hour Inspire buff, Energetic or Flirty buff. What about Focus? Someone said something about Reading, but is that a guarantee? Do you have to read the ENTIRE book first? Also, is there any way to stack more than 4 hours?

How do you get these Tea's you're speaking of? I have a coffee pot, but didn't see a Tea maker.

EDIT: Another part of the guide that would really help. What emotions effect what activities? I know Focus helps with gaming, Inspiration helps with cooking, Energetic helps with working out. What about other stuff?

For the reading part that person meant emotional books, when you order them online select the smiling face icon for that category of books.

For the emotion books they only take 30 or so minutes in game time to receive a buff. So you would want to be careful what order you stack your buffs. The emotion books don't have a time to finish reading from what I saw, there was no filling in circle to estimate time til finished. And you can use them multiple times, I won't say infinitely yet but I have used the same book four to six times now.

I am also curious if there are buffs lasting longer than four hours, that seems to be the standard time for most of the positive buffs I receive. Only buffs I get for a day is negative ones, like from being eaten by my Cowplant so that I can milk it or scrape it for a microscope.

The second to last item in the Kitchen Appliances is a Tea Makerasa. The item is 275 Simoleons so cheap for the effect it gives, and each brew gives three cups for 15 simoleons each. And each pot of tea lasts 10 hours from the very beginning while it brews, so around 9 and a half when you begin drinking. You can lengthen that time by pouring all the tea into individual cups and stop the auto-drinking process and throwing them into the fridge, gives you a nine day window to decide when to drink it.

Oh right the tea buff is four hours like most other buffs gathered from food and items. Not sure why I wrote three.

I know focus helps with chess and programming. Inspiration helps with creative skills such as painting and music. Confidence of course helps charisma.

I would say try a lot of different things. Maybe back up your saves so you can revert to an earlier partd since you will be neglecting other things.  Or make a new set of sims to test all these items out. As the game just came out I am not an authority on this, just wanted to share some of my observations.

Long positive buff can be had from marriage for example. I haven't looked for long buffs in particular, but know I had at least a whole day, maybe 2 for getting married.

This is definitely on my short to-do list, but I kind of want to finish careers first. 6 to go and I can get on an Emotion guide, but no promises it'll be out within the next week.. Some of these careers are taking a while. I'm glad I got Astronaut done.. it's gotta be one of the hardest. Figures though, doesn't it?

Thanks Chris, I sure will keep tryin'. I'm glad you like the site and will try to get that out as soon as I can. I myself am still learning the game. I am thinking the emotions page needs to have a long list of ways you can trigger/stack emotions for Sims, and that is going to take a while to research. I have a general notes file that is gradually growing, and will start focusing on that soon so that I can help folks trigger these emotions for work. They are very easy to get at home because of emotional auras from career objects. So far, every career reward object I have seen has an emotional aura that you can enable/disable, but that doesn't help when you're off to work - and unfortunately things like using the mirror or shower to get a buff only last about 4 hours. Still, I think it helps career progress to go in and have that mood for a time, and I'm sure that happy is helpful to Sims' career progress as well. The game says 'ideal' mood, so any positive one is sure to help.. though you may not want to get too flirty with the boss  ;D

Naturally, I'm thinking of careers because that is where the true strategy lies with emotions, but it will be helpful to Sims falling in love and getting married to stack flirty and improve the success rate of social interactions, while also unlocking extras. I want to know what they all are, but it'll be one of the biggest/hardest things to research in the game. There are shortcomings with this game, but the Social Interactions are an area the developers did very well in.

I must agree, they did VERY well with Social and how it all plays into the Emotions! Your guides are always top notch and its easy to see why. You put so much time into researching them and getting ALL of the info you can into them. I can't wait!

OH, another guide you might have on the long-to-do list (which I'm sure you already have there) is how to do all the Aspirations?

Thanks so much for the response, Carl! Greatly appreciate it :)

Don't forget to add the "bad" emotions. They are harder to get through objects (at least the once easy to come by). Nutella gave me great advice though about how to get your sims in an angry mood here.

We are going to do Aspirations on one big list and individual pages that describe all of the milestones you must achieve to complete them. They unlock special traits, so I think we can manage a full page for each. This will be done similar to how lifetime wishes were done on the Sims 3 guide, but with less of a story element and more a focus on strategy.. at least that's what I'm thinking for the moment.

As for bad moods, thanks for the reminder, and I'll definitely work on that as well. Someone may want to water the garden with their tears from being sad, and I'd love to help with that if it's possible :P
