Strange choice by burglar
« on: July 25, 2014, 09:04:09 PM »
I'm just curious if anyone else has had this happen? Because this has to be the third or fourth time for me.... Or, if anyone knows WHY it happens?

I had a burglar today that walked straight past my new science station (which, as we know, runs around a thousand simoleons), just to steal my very used common commode. Why????

I'm just sitting here... baffled.

What they steal is just random. Kind of like when I have sim with the kleptomaniac trait and tell him to swipe something while standing beside a nice expensive car and he walks around the car and steals a porch light instead. :)
A clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.

Maybe they really, REALLY needed to go?

My burglars seem to always take plumbing equipment -- toilets and showers, mainly. Most recently, I had one take an all-in-one combination that actually was expensive.

That's... annoying.

Mine, though, was in that cheaper house whose name I can't remember in Moonlight falls. 2 bedrooms with an apple tree and driveway...? (Affordable Elegance? I think? Down the street from city hall.) Anyway, he walked in the front door, through the living room/kitchen, through the second bedroom where I had the new lab table, a computer, and the chin-up bar.... and into the bathroom to steal the toilet.

Just weird. You'd think if the thing triggered in the living room/kitchen combo that it would steal something there. Same goes for the bedroom. Why would he walk into the bathroom and trigger a steal? Just.... I don't know. Hm...... Did my upgrading with auto clean make it more desirable than a factory lab table? (shrug)

Sometimes it's great how random it is - I remember I had just put a brand new wall TV in my sim's house then had a "face-palm" moment when the burglar rocked up and just nicked the extremely cheap flower vase beside the TV! Phew, as soon as it was over - I got the burglar alarm.  ::)

LMAO Yeah, I snagged one right after he ran off into the sunset with my toilet.

I've been doing a challenge series in which I started my sim out with an empty lot and no money and I have been using the money he slowly acquires to build a house. In episode two I had a "robbery", apparently the burglar couldn't actually steal anything because the only thing on the lot that wasn't walls or my garden was the bed my sim was sleeping in. It was quite hilarious because the burglar came to the lot, looked at the house, and then simply ran away.

I also had the Repoman (Repowoman?) come in another episode because I forgot to pay my bills of $2 and she said, "We have so much in common, I'd love to get to know you better", or something along those lines and left.  :D

I don't think I've ever had a burglar steal something that was actually of immense value and made sense. They seem to like coming in and stealing the most random thing in the household...

Which leaves me wondering, how does one steal a toilet anyway? How do you run off with a toilet?  ???

I think it's a bunch of rogue plumbers.

Well if you look in the XML files you will see burglars are limited to what they can steal. They only will attempt to steal 5% of the household's worth. So right off they are limited by what they can take. Even a 50,000 Simoleon house would cap out at 2,500 Simoleons. (give or take 10% variable on that).

They can't take more than 10 items so if they take something, they can't return it and take something else.

There are only two burglars in the town pool and they won't steal if your relationship is 75 or higher.

And there are more modifiers than this, so likely this is why some burglars steal "junk."

Interesting! I didn't know that!
