EP Installation Help
« on: August 05, 2014, 11:02:22 AM »
Hi. So I have difficulty installing EPs, in that I can't.

The EPs I own (all on Origin):
   Generations
   Pets
   Late Night
   World Adventures
(I also have the High-End Loft Stuff pack)

However, I can only install World Adventures and the High-End Loft Stuff pack. When trying to install the other EPs, I get the error message: "This product requires an installed copy of The Sims 3. Please install The Sims 3 before installing this product." This is frustrating because 1. The Sims 3 is installed, and 2. It provides no actual help whatsoever.

EDIT: I get the same error when I try to update my game.

All help is appreciated.

That means it's not detecting your Sims 3 installation properly... so it's likely it hasn't actually updated your registry entries.

Try launching The Sims 3 and see if there's any patches available. That might force it to update your registry.

Khaine would it work if masy downloaded the super patch as a sims3pack file and tried update with that? Unfortunately I can't remember where I downloaded mine from.

You may be looking at a complete reinstall, unfortunately.

Meant to reply to this yesterday and forgot.

I'm afraid Pam is exactly right. For some reason, you are missing the registry entries you need so your computer actually knows where everything is installed. Only way to fix that is to reinstall the game.

What I would suggest you do, is install the base game and then run it. That should force your computer to generate all user data files and ensure that it really is properly installed.

Then start installing your EP's.

Thank you.  :D I did try a reinstall before, but I never though to run The Sims before installing the other EPs. This finally got everything working.
