Unable to use the piano

My sim was serenading his husband with the new song he learned on the piano when the game suddenly canceled his action and moved him a few feet away. Now whenever I click on the piano, I get the little grey message saying that there are no interactions available. This is true for all of the sims in my household. I can't pick up the piano in buy mode or delete it. It says that the object is in use by the sim who was playing it. I've tried reseting my sim but it didn't work. Can anyone help me with this?

I would try forcing it deleted and replacing it.  Turn on testing cheats (ctrl-shift-c then testingcheatsenabled true). Then shift-click the item and click Object and Delete It.  That should "release" whatever's tied up on it, and you can buy a new one.  Good luck!
