I'm not sure if anyone has compiled information on this topic already, but I'd appreciate any tips. I'm creating an outline for my Townie DecaDynasty Challenge attempt and would like to include any rule-abiding strategies players have for preserving original townies' genetics throughout the generations.

Also, any details or clarification regarding common methods like using Pollinators or the Science skill would be much appreciated. I have a vague understanding of both approaches but would love to learn more about what factors to consider when employing them.

I made a rough collection of tips. It's geared towards immortal dynasties, so you might need to tweak some things for yourself. Anyways, my tips are here.

The Decadynasty has fewer restrictions with moving sims out than the Immortal Dynasty does, for starters. While I had to rely on older men in my immortal dynasty to seed the town because I sure as heck didn't want useless pollinators sticking around for too long when I couldn't move them out, in the Decadynasty, you can move them out when they're done with their usefulness. Age doesn't matter as much when you can do that.

Cloning sims in a decadynasty is a little less useful, because you have to marry someone outside of the house, and clones can't be spouses because they're in your active household. You can clone sims to later contribute to the gene pool, though (like cloning a male sim and later having the clone father a child outside of the household right before your heir moves out, therefore possibly giving the next generation a spouse).

There is probably more to consider, but those two adjustments came to mind first.

Nope. The "Convince To..." interaction might set up romantic partners, but they won't take it to the next level.

(Note: Twallan's Woohooer does modify that interaction so that you can convince a sim to Woohoo or Try for Baby with another sim, but that won't help a dynasty. It does confuse players, though. When I first tried an immortal dynasty, I spent a while wondering why I couldn't convince sims to Try for Baby anymore, because I hadn't played without Woohooer before that. :P)

Trip, I was wondering if changing townies to fairies was allowed. If so there's my strategy. After all you can ask them to forsake the fae... So it all works.

You can't change them into fairies yourself; only story progression is allowed to do that. Asking sims to forsake their occultness works only for sims in the household. You can use a Potent Cure Elixir on an occult, though.

Oh, didn't realize that. Isn't it allowed in immortal dynasties though? I can't find any rules against it...

It's allowed only the 4x4. Immortal Dynasties are extremely strict with life-extension, and turning sims into long-lived occults is in direct violation of that.

Yes, it extends the life of sims outside of your household too, and unless you're playing an Immortal Dynasty, it's perfectly fine to use it for the expressed purpose of extending townies' lives.

(Note: you can have a Stylist in an Immortal Dynasty, but they can't make over sims that would give you an advantage if they had a longer life, and doing it to preserve townie genes would break that rule. So style the sims you really don't care about there instead)

Sane logic goes for giving tattoos to sims. Set up a tattoo station at home, invite townies over, ink them up, and reset their age in the process.

Your guide was extremely helpful, thanks! You said you don't know how things work in Oasis Landing, but I think I can answer some of those:

1) There will be generic sims later on, but whether they'll move in houses or just be homeless townies, I haven't yet tested that long.

2) Time in OL starts when you first land your feet there, so if you go there later, you'll have a good chance of snatching 100% unique spouses for at least one or two later generations.

3) When some of your sims go to OL, but not all, the ones left behind do not age. I have no idea is this kind of thing banned, check yourself, but if it isn't, it's an easy method of freeing up precious household space. Beware: can cause broken family trees.

4) If you spend a long time without going to future, you'll need to know that townies there do age while you're away. So, don't be surprised if you end up with a bunch of elders in futuristic clothes.

All of these tested by myself, but my game is buggy and my computer old, so some may be caused by bugs and/or glitches.

Thanks for the Oasis Landing info! The aging sounds like it uses the same mechanics as travel worlds/the University subhood.

Travel worlds and university actually do repopulate themselves by generating children of whoever is living there at the time, instead of just forcing more generic clones into the world. Does Oasis Landing do the same?

I've not been to the future for long enough to know yet, sorry. I'll put here as soon as I find something on that.
