No physical title deeds?
« on: December 26, 2013, 12:31:14 AM »
Firstly, hello everyone, I'm new! OK, I'm reasonably new to the PC Sims as I played a lot on console before. On there you get a deed in the name of whoever did the actual action of buying properties etc, I noticed after I moved on to the PC I didn't get these anymore and  figured you just didn't get them and that was fine. However, I wanted to change active households for the first time and was worried that as well as wishes I might lose things in my inventory and/or the properties I own, so I went to Google. All I could find were people talking about moving deeds and trying to hang then on the wall and such, and I have nothing in any sims inventory of that type.

So, does this mean that if I were to switch, my investments would be safe? Or is it new household, new game? I obviously don't want to lose that income, and I've seen people say that they didn't even get refunded when it happened to them.

Also, people were talking about a mod that may help out, but I have no idea how to get and use one, they were all just speaking as if everyone knows what a mod is, and I'm afraid I don't. Any help would be hugely appreciated, I really want to switch but if I lose everything I will not be pleased! It almost seems to go against the idea of in-game progress, suddenly having  to work again in order to repurchase and edit MY town in the first place! Final note, I'm typing this on a phone in a tiny box with an annoying scroll, so I apologise if it's a bit rambling, proof-reading is basically impossible right now :/

Welcome to our Forum.

In answer to your first question, property deeds are all electronic.  You can view everything you own and everything that's still available by using the phone or computer to access Real Estate Services.  Unfortunately, the property ownership does not transfer to a new household.  In the game's view, your new family did not purchase the property, even though you as the player already went through the process.  In my current game, I had a large family who had purchased a few properties in town when I split the family up by moving out half of the Sims.  I stayed with the ones who moved out and left the others behind.  Even then, the property was no longer owned by the Sims who moved.

Now on to your question about mods.  A mod is a modification of the game that is done by someone other than Electric Arts, the game's creator.  It's a third party thing done by other players of Sims 3.  If you choose to run mods, you need to educate yourself on how to properly install them, how they work, and be prepared to maintain them in your game.  What I mean by maintain is that, for example, a mod is built to a specific version of the game and when an update comes out from EA for the game, you also have to update your mods.  There's no guarantee that a mod will be properly updated or how long it will take and, in the meantime, your game may not run properly.  There are many people who use mods in their games.  However, I am not one of them.  I prefer to keep my game clean and not add that extra layer.  Also, it's a requirement of all challenges on our Forum that the game be free of mods when the challenge is played.  You can find much more information on our Game Modifications board.

I hope this gets you started with the help you're looking for.  :)

Ah ok, thank you! That's a bit annoying but I've just thought of a reasonable way round it I think, I'll move my house to a bigger lot, build a few extra rooms and so on and I'll just move who ever I want in with me! Yet another thing you couldn't do on the console version so I'm happy enough.

As for mods, yes, now I know what they are I think I agree with you. I don't want to complicate my gaming experience with unknown programmes.

Thank you again for all your help, this is a really nice forum :)

So when you split up a large household the investments are lost all together? Or, do they stay behind with the family left in the old house?
