Display settings are weird
« on: September 18, 2010, 05:49:10 PM »
I had an issue with my computer and had a new screen installed along with lots of nice new drivers to make my screen function properly.  Before when I would play the Sims everything filled up the screen and it looked very nice and proportional.  Now I had to adjust the game settings display to the highest one, so once again I had a full screen during play time.  But now all my Sims are skinny alien looking things.  Even the heavy Sims are no longer big boned looking, but taller and slimmer and you can only tell I had made them fat when you have a side view of them and can see their tummy pouch.  Also when the game is starting the loading bar would fill up most of the bottom of the screen, now it is barely 4 inches (about 10 cm).  When I am on the main menu the box that has my games filled a healthy quantity of the screen, now it is small and compact.  I have messed with the screen display options but that hasn't done anything but make the background fill up the entire screen instead of having big black paned side panels next to my game.  Any suggestions?

How is your screen resolution for everything else? Is it just the Sims that are out of proportion, or are other things on your screen wacky too.. eg how do the screenshots here on the forum look?

Everything else on my computer is normal.  Browser, documents, iTunes, the forum.  It is just the Sims.  I took a new screenshot and the properties are different now.  I used to be able to run my game at dimensions 1024x768 and all the screen shots were less than 700 kb. Now the screen size I am using is 1360x768 and the screen shot is now over 900kb.  I have to run my game as 1360x768 to fill up the entire screen.  But running my game at the 1024x768 I have about 2.5 inches(6.35 cm) of solid black on each side of the game.  It looks normal and proportionate but not full screen (5 inches/12.7cm less screen being used).   The black sides are very distracting and just plain annoying.

Oh, then I have nothing sorry. Is it a larger monitor? If so, maybe Sims isn't equipped to be as large. I have no idea really, just thinking out loud.

Thanks for trying to think for me.  I am just at a loss here.  I really don't like the way it looks now.  I am going to have to suck it up and learn to deal with it I think.  I tried to play a few times today but I can't get over how weird it looks and how small my info bar is when playing.  I haven't been able to find anything out on how to fix it.  By the way I do have the same screen size.  It is so bizarre.

I have had that happen, I just kept experimenting with different size screen resolutions in game and finally came up with one that was perfect.  I had went from a 19 in monitor to a 26 in screen and now it is great.  At the moment, I don't remember what my sims resolution is, but just keep changing it until you get to the size you like.  Other than that, I don't know what else to think of.  Good luck. :)
