Ingredients (Alchemy) Mod
« on: April 28, 2013, 11:37:49 PM »
It's tiring sometimes to collect 3 different categories of ingredients to create a potion, a single werewolf isn't enough, sometimes I send out all of my dogs and my werewolves to hunting trips only to miss some ingredients that I need, while the gardener requires some micromanaging to collect herbal ingredients faster, I don't want to even talk about fishing. Is there a mod where it makes collecting ingredients easier?

Do you have university life?

If you do then all you need is the science skill, you'd be able to take samples of the ingredients you need - bugs, metals, fish, plants.  Then with a minimal possibility of destruction, you can choose to clone the sample and get new versions of the ingredients you need.  One sim, one skill.  Just don't use the items you need for samples and you'll never run out.

Sadly, no, I don't have UI. I remember there being a cheat that can clone things in-game, does that work for ingredients?

I know you can get the plants from buydebug and technically you could place spawners on your lot too but I don't remember the clone cheat.  Sorry.

I would like to mention the conversion ritual from witches can work well for fish, bugs and rocks if you wanted that option.  Sometimes it takes more time and sometimes it takes less.

If you place an alchemy stand on your home lot it automatically places some alchemy spawners for you.  The bug spawner it places was always generous with alchemy butterflies in my experience (lots of red admiral, green swallowtail, and that purple one).  If you have a gatherer sim who has done the metal collecting challenge smelting raw metals can net you multiple ingots per ore.  Also having a gatherer cut gems using a gem cutter gives extra gem dust.  And if you have a large fish tank (not the bowl) you can place two of your alchemy fish in it to let them breed over time.

I haven't tried cloning ingredients, but I think the cheat you're after is activated by hitting ctrl+shift+c to bring up a text line at the top of the screen then entering "testingcheatsenabled true".  After you've done that and you're in game you should be able to ctrl+shift+left click on an object to see a radial menu with options - if "clone object" is an option continue to hold down ctrl+shift and select it.  A clone of the object should appear at the end of your cursor and you can then place it on the lot.

There is indeed a mod for that.  Twallan's DebugEnabler.  Its current location is: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/DebugEnabler

Within its host of gleefully powerful powers is the ability to spawn specific RGM and insects directly on the ground for collection.  It's pretty menu-intense and easy to get lost in the multiple nested menus, but if your sims are growing elderly waiting on that pink diamond or sunstone and can't seem to find them even with a collection helper, and you're dead-set on cheating, this is the way to do it.  It's not even a core mod.

As far as gardening goes, TwoFtMama at her Naughty Sims Asylum (http://simsasylum.com/tfm/) has a number of gardening mods in many different flavors from convenient to downright cheaty; look for "Plantastic" over there.  Also, search around http://ModTheSims.info to find things like "no more toetap" and "no more routefail tantrum" to help speed up automated gardening, particularly if you're using multiple gardeners and/or a complicated gardening plan.  Also on ModTheSims, there's also a magic fountain that auto-waters your whole lot, and a magic gnome (possibly outdated) that can force the whole lot to bloom at your whim so you can rapidly achieve perfection and maintain it with little effort.  DebugEnabler can also cause individual plants to bloom, but it takes a few clicks through a menu full of unrelated options.

As far as fishing ... a level 10 fisherman who hasn't even beat any of the challenges or learned any bait can catch deathfish without bait, so all you really need is the skill.  You don't need Angler, Gatherer or Loves The Outdoors (granted, they help), and you don't need to read the fishing books or even learn the bait chains to catch the exotic fish.  You just need a sim to put the time in.  If you want to reduce the time your sim puts in, get them the Fast Learner lifetime reward, or do what I do: send your vampire out after dark while hopped up on a Skill Gain drink.  Also, make sure their mood is up while they're out fishing.  The simplest elixir of bliss will work wonders here, and a potent invigorating elixir will ensure that they can stay up all night and all day fishing.  You'll have your mastery in no time if you work with what you've got!

I'm not sure about a mod to make collecting easier but there is a mod to make any potion without the need of ingredients.
Shimrod has a mod on Naughty Sims Asylum that removes the requirement for all the ingredients when making all of the potions at the Alchemy Station. You will have to register with the site to view and download the mod.
It's located here.

Were you satisfied with the solutions here? I thought that I should mention that you can buy regular fish at the grocery store. I believe it would be possible, if you don't want it to be too cheaty, to add insects and extra types of fish to the grocery and/or consignment store list.
