How To Protect Plants/Garden from Zombies?

One of my fairies planted lettuce, tomatoes, grapes and 2 apple trees. We put a fence around the garden with a gate which I thought only my household could open.

During the Full Moon, zombies entered the garden and killed the plants. One of the fairies cast bloom on one plant.

How do I protect plants from zombies?

How big is the fenced in area?
Edit: Are the zombies appearing inside the garden or outside then coming in through the gate?

Double check that the gate is locked.  And, as Danielle mentioned, where are the zombies appearing?  They have spawning points and they will always come out of those spots.  If you have built the fence around a spawning spot, the zombies are already inside the fenced area and there's nothing you can do.  Make sure you put your garden and fence away from the spawning spots.  Also, do you have the peashooters?  I think the came as an additional piece to Supernatural, but they will shoot the zombies when they appear.

I didn't download the extra peashooter thing because I thought it had to do with decorations/free additions to a Plants and Zombies game I already purchased from Steam. I will check again to see if I can get it from Origin.

Sims 3 partnered with Plants vs. Zombies for some fun items.  In addition to the pea shooter, there are the sunflowers.  They drop pieces of sunshine that can be used as an outstanding fertilizer for your garden, or you can sell them for money by dragging to the sell box in your inventory.

The pea shooters are great, but I think the sunflowers are only available for purchase from the online store (as part of a set?).

Here is my new garden. I made it smaller; there was a zombie spawn within the gate as Pat said. I waited for the next Full Moon and whenever a zombie appeared, I paused the game, went into build mode and put a red tile on the spawn spot.

I sledgehammered the gate and replaced it with the Redwood Gate and Fence. It seems to be stronger and the zombies couldn't open the fence. Finally, I did get the Plants vs. Zombies Decor Pack after going to EA.com help.
