Sims 3 on Windows 8?
« on: April 13, 2014, 07:53:01 PM »
Hello everyone!  :)

I'm currently using windows 8 and I don't know if sims 3 will work on it. I read somewhere that I can do it by changing the compatibility mode, but the problem is that I don't know if my laptop can carry sims 3 without any problems.

I'm using acer aspire e1-531-f12c/f.

I also took a screenshot of the system information, in case someone needs it.

Please help me  :'(

p.s. Please tell me if this thread is not allowed here or if I posted it on a wrong topic. Thanks!

I recently installed The Sims 3 on my new Windows 8 systems and I didn't have to do anything different than normal. I just installed it and started playing.
As for your laptop running The Sims if I'm looking at it right you might have a problem with having only 2 gigs of memory.
A clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.

I have windows 8  and it works just fine, I didn't have to change anything, I access everything threw the desktop view, I rarely go into the windows 8 (like a tablet) view

Ditto on Windows 8, it ran fine without having to do any compatibility stuff.

The best way to find out if it will work for you is to try installing it.

Windows 8 isn't a problem for running TS3 (like many, I do it just fine without doing anything differently). 2GB of RAM and a 1.8GHz processor might be, and I've heard not-so-great things about Intel's integrated graphics. It's not a definite no, but you're definitely running on minimum requirements.

Hi there Pikachan,
Windows 8 should not be a problem at all for you to play the Sims, though I must agree with everyone else that the problem will be after you've started playing. You don't have enough memory (RAM) to meet the requirements for the base game with any expansions. Windows 8 runs a lot more efficiently than 7 (I'm running 7) so it will use less power in the background than 7 would, but I still wouldn't encourage raising the graphics in-game above low. Make sure that when you play you're not running anything in the background as they could take up whatever small space is left to run your game decently. You'll likely have some lag when you play as well as possible crashing, so save as and save often when you do play.
Also, if you would like to upgrade your RAM on your laptop, I found this: http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/Acer-memory/Aspire+E1/Aspire+E1-531-2697-upgrades.html
as well as this: http://www.crucial.com/eu/upgrade/Acer-memory/Aspire+E1/Aspire+E1-531-upgrades.html

Upgrading your RAM will help enormously with lag and being able to turn up your graphics, but as is, your computer should run the Sims ok. Just remember to save often! :)

I'm glad I could help! I wouldn't say you can't play the Sims (I was able to play the Base Game up to Pets on an old Vista computer with no graphics card and very little RAM), but you may run into some problems with lag and crashing. So if and when you do play on the laptop, make sure that you save often!
Now, I'm probably going to sound silly, but what do you mean when you say "ts3w?" The first thing that comes to my mind is The Sims 3 Wiki, but that's not something you would have personally, so I'm confused. I'm probably missing something obvious though.

hahaha! that's funny! :D no it's not the sims wiki! it's also a file that comes when you install sims on your computer. someone told me that i can find it at C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3W.exe

Ah, that makes sense, and I run Windows 7, so I can't be for sure if that's the right place for a Windows 8 computer.

i think for windows 7, you can see that if you go to \Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\
:)

Oh, I know where mine is, I'm pretty technical. I was just saying that I couldn't help you find yours because I've never used a Windows 8 computer so I had no idea if it would be in the same place as it would on my Windows 7.

I play on Win 8.1 [Which is having issues with updating right now but that's beside the point]. You should be able to play it, but save often and I would recommend getting a computer with more RAM and a non integrated GPU [Trust me, it makes a huge difference].

I also use Windows 8.1 and it's pretty much the same thing as I played when on Windows 7. It's just the start menu is somewhere else.
