Widescreen not working anymore

So, I'm sure there have been many topics about this already, but I think my situation needs different attention. I recently bought a new PC. It is a netbook with a touch screen that fits my needs perfectly, except for one thing, it no longer plays the Sims 3 in wide screen. I'll post the specs

Intel 1.5GHz dual core CPU
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB HDD
Intel HD GPU
About 1300x768 resolution touch display
Windows 8.1

Plenty to run the game at decent settings, and I have been with no lag issues at all.

So, I purchased the game about 3 days ago from the Origin sale, and dowoaded it. It ran in 16x9 wide screen at full resolution perfectly well. Then I decided to download some expansion packs and some content from the exchange(only a 3 houses) I got Town Life Stuff for free of course and it continued to run perfectly with it. Then today I downloaded the Dual pack of World Adventures and Generations, and that is where things went south.

After I downloaded Generations and World Adventures, I logged back into the game. It had reset my settings back to default and put me back into 4x3 ratio. So I changed back my settings, improving some of the graphics settings. I have been unable to change it back to 16x9, even after many attempts. It always kicks me back into 4x3.   

Any help? Perhaps I should try defalt settings then try to change the aspect ratio.

Yes, try changing back to default settings and then try changing them to what you want to set them as, if you haven't already.

Also make sure you've got your drivers updated.

Thanks for replying. I tried to change the settings back to default, but it still won't play in wide screen. And I'm not entirely sure what the drivers are. The game is patched to the latest version if that's what you mean.

Anyways, I may just have to suck it up an play it in regular 4x3 if I can't get it to work.

I might try uninstalling the rest of my exchange content. (Only 3 houses from a trusted simmer). There might be an issue there.

By drivers, do you mean like Directx? Because that installed before I launched the game for the first time so it should be up to date.

I'm sorry, I meant video card drivers. From what I've been reading, it's best to make sure you're video card and game drivers are updated for Windows 8.

They should be calibrated for windows 8 considering the computer came with it by default. If it is in game software you are referring to then I'll have to check.

Are you having graphic issues with other programs?

I'm having this same problem.  I am playing Sims 3 on a Windows 8 laptop, and have been playing it with no problems on this same laptop for a couple of years now.  I took a few months off, downloaded Into the Future and Movie Stuff when I returned and suddenly I am unable to set it to the screen resolution that matches my computer. I try, and it kicks me back into that lonely square in the center of the screen.  I uninstalled and reinstalled everything, I'm using zero custom content or mods at the moment.  My drivers are up to date, nothing has changed with my computer but 2 new Sims 3 packs.
