Building and managing several community lots as a Sim
« on: March 01, 2014, 08:33:15 PM »
I'm having a problem doing something I thought I could do. The thing is: I live in a neighborhood that has only one gym. On top of that, it's too far away from my home. So I thought to myself "why can't I buy a lot near my house, build a gym for me and every sim living in my city?". I could use it and also profit. But here lies the problem: I can't do that. When I buy a lot, it will be classified as a private one. The only way to turn it to a community lot is by editing it in Edit Town menu. When I do that, my sim doesn't own the property anymore, and to "get it back", I have to pay over 100k. Is there any way to do it without having to pay 100k+? Thanks. I've already tried setting up an empty lot to be a gym but the price is still higher than it should be. Any thoughts? Thanks.

By changing it to a community lot you've revoked the permissions from your sim household to own it.  Your best bet is to use motherlode or kaching cheat to get back the money it cost you to originally purchase it and then purchase it as a business rather than as an additional home.  It will remain a community lot but you'll get shares every week and you can build/buy on it.

That's probably what I will do. Thanks for the reply (the only one, lol).

You can also build it in edit town.  I have done that although mine is generally remodeling.

Just do the same as you would with building a house.  You have changed the lot, now go to the building icon and build the gym, or whatever you want.  You can even, as I have done lots of time, use buildings from other towns.

I don't remember what the choice is, but when you go to build it is there with the options to put in a basement, pond and such.

Or save the building, same as you would save a house you made; it will go in the community bin (I think that is what it is called) where there are houses, empty house and I think  it is a bench icon.  Just place it where you want it to be on a community lot  with the move option, has to be the same size or bigger.  Then bulldoze the old building.

When you have finished it, it is a community building and you haven't paid anything for it, the "programing" has.   :D

I'm sure I give more detailed info than is needed.  I can tell by number of posts a new member to the forum, but that doesn't mean you haven't played the game a lot and already know lots of info and I have just bored you to tears.

I know that somewhere in the guide there has to be a section that can give better info than what I telling you.  Not good at giving links to areas for some reason, they don't work.

Haha, I get you, Janna. The problem isn't really the money. The problem is that the game lacks a function for you to turn your private lot into a community lot (live mode), so when you do it by Edit Town, it unlinks every connection the lot had with my sim. Anyway, thanks for you reply (not the only one now!).

I understand what you mean.

When I was working on my community perfect garden I had to first do it as residential lot to be able to grow the plants.  Built a small house and gave them lots of money.  Grew the plants to perfect, set up the garden and did some walkthroughs to clear up routing problems.  Then, moved them to another home, went to edit town and made it a community lot.

The fun part was making sure no plants were ready to go barren after I moved out.  Move out, go back to check later and find two plants that are now barren.  Fix that, and a couple more are barren.   :)  It wasn't boring

What you want to do seems to be similar to what I had done with the garden.

Yeah, that seemed like a great project. I hope you had fun with it. I think I'll just do as you said with my gym. Thanks.
