Moving households to new towns
« on: January 29, 2014, 07:48:50 AM »
Can I ask if you move a household to another town, what happens to the rest of the town, households etc?

I don't want to lose the rest of the households, but if I save a household and then install them into a new town their relationships with other townies will be lost, won't it?

Many thanks in advance

Any time you move a household to another town, the current/first town will be lost.  One thing you can do is to save the file before moving and then save it using a different name when you get settled into the new town.  That way, you will still have everything from the first town so you can still have the families there.  I hope this helps.

Thanks Pam.

So just to confirm make copy of original town, move family to new town, save game.
Go to copy & delete household I moved and I'll have original town but will their relationships still be tact and show in their family trees. D

Does that make sense?

Thanks again

Basically when you move to a new town it's like starting a new game.  All relationships to the previous town are lost as it no longer exists, so your sims won't show any relationships even in their family tree if family members were left behind in the previous town.  When you move back to the previous town it will not be the same as when you first left it, because you aren't really moving "back" there but starting another new game, so any custom lots won't be there, any friends and family members you had won't be there.  The town will have been reset with all the standard townies.

Will items from the old house still remain in the new household or will it be like saving to the librayry, where only the family inventory and personal inventories are intact and everything else is lost. I was wondering because I am doing a 4x4 Dynasty test run and I have read other 4x4 Dynasties and they sell everything in the house before moving.
I play The Sims 4 for fun, so I don't care if I never end up being interviewed for the Dynasty Hall of Fame; people who play for keeps burn out too easily and don't enjoy playing the games, so I am going to not sweat the details.

I'll try to share what I have experiences, I don't know what is and isn't allowed in challenges as I am lousy at following rules, so they won't work for me   ;D
Whether you create a family or play a townie one, the rules still apply.

Jones family, lives in SV, has a son and can't find a mate for him.  I decide to move the family to RV.  Save the game as SV Jones 1.  To make sure I don't goof up I play for a few more minutes and save as SV Jones 1.1.  You can use the phone to move to another town, or use the save to bin and then transfer them.
I am going it works both ways what happens with what you have.  If you sell all of your items, you will go without anything.  If you want to save it all, best bet is to move to an empty lot, save again, and then do the save to bin.
Choose a new game with the town you want, RV.  Start the game as normal, but  use the adding a family.  Pick out a house and put your family there.  If you have saved your stuff, you will, generally, find it in family inventory.  I have moved and found items missing,  when I move other times when I move have it all.

If for some reason you don't want to play in RV and want to return to your previous game you can just go back to it.  You have saved it and it will show up in the boxes when you go to play (I'm not good with technical name of stuff) choose that save and you will go back to the save.
You will have lost all of your wishes, opportunities and relationships with anyone in that town.  But you can continue as if you haven't left the game.  If your sim is employed they should start back at the same level, I have had a couple lose a couple levels.

If you return to the old house and didn't sell the items, they will still be in the house.  You can end up with duplicates.
For dynasties, I don't know the rules, so you can ask those who are in charge of them and they can answer them.

Hope it helps, I try to do several saves in a game in a town.
