Won't play!!
« on: February 22, 2014, 10:35:54 AM »
Hello I wonder if someone could help? I was playing Sims3 on an old laptop but it wouldn't or rather couldn't do the last update, so I ended up buying a new laptop just to play Sims (as it's my favourite pastime!). But I installed the base game with the disc and I managed to install WA but if I add anything else from the origin launcher it just won't play! I have tried everything that has been suggested from the sims forum but nothing worked. My son said maybe try to find another site and see if someone else might be able to help and I came across you, does anyone have any ideas?

How will it not play? Does the game not launch? Does it crash upon trying to load?

If I try installing something from the origin launcher then click on play, it loads up the sims launcher so I click on play on that  and all that happens is the little blue loading ring shows for a few seconds then it stops and nothing else happens. The sims launcher has gone and no sign of anything loading?  :(

Hi Onthefence,

Can you post your computer's specs? This will help determine if you're computer will handle Sims 3 or not.

If you're not sure how to find your computer's specs

And sorry KRae yes I made sure that Origin is up to date, I tied uninstalling everything including Origin several times and as I don't mind starting fresh games I didn't worry about backing up anything I just literally started everything completely anew on the new laptop. Very sad :-[

Hi, onthefence.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the laptop you bought won't play Sims 3 + everything. We have a a laptop very similar to it (Acer Aspire One 722 with 8 GB), and it runs Base + World Adventures + High-End Loft Stuff. Anything we try to install after that crashes during the installation. While your Toshiba can take up to 16 GB memory, I don't know how much that will help as the system has a limited processor and a limited graphics card, much like our Aspire. It is not meant for gaming, but for light processing and web surfing - what used to be called a netbook, but is now called an entry level Ultrabook.

It is also under-specs for the base game, as is our Aspire. It has a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor, while the base game's minimum is a 1.8 GHz dual-core or 2.4 GHz single-core processor. The graphics card is good, but has no dedicated memory. Sims 3 base game wants 128 MB dedicated video memory at the very least.More information and a system test can be found at System Requirements Lab.

Again, that doesn't mean you can't play The Sims 3 at all, but you will limited on the expansions and stuff packs you can run with it. Your experience with the Toshiba is very similar to the experience we have with our Aspires.

Hope this helps, and happy Simming! :)
