I don't think Thanatos exactly thought about leaving someone else in charge, but Eos and the Reapers do seem to be doing his job while he's gone. And poor Crow, he's losing to Shrike on two accounts now! Since his name is confusing and she's insane. :) It's quite likely she is going to be the heir.

Chapter 7: The Heir

Well, life has been pretty boring in Midnight Hollow lately. Which is a good thing, I guess, since it's such a creepy place with so many creepy people.

I'm trying hard to work at getting another promotion in my science career. Because I really just want a maybe two more, and then I'm going to switch to another job. Level five of four different careers? It seemed like a great idea when I first thought of it. But now it kind of seems hard. And I have to accomplish it because we need those totally arbitrary points that will somehow make Medusa come back here and let us go!

Shrike and Crow have so much homework to do. It looks tough. Crow manages pretty well, but sometimes Shrike doesn't finish and has to do it at school. That doesn't sound fun at all. Still, she's managing. One of them is going to be the heir. I'm still hoping they decide.

My creepy, bald former co-worker evidently finally figured out what love is. Or something. At any rate, he now has a girlfriend. Lucy Lau. I have no clue what she sees in that creepy guy. Something apparently. I'm still mad at Annie Lau, though, because she was the only person who wasn't scary here and she would never visit. So I married Samantha instead.

Yeah... um. I've never told Samantha that, obviously. She probably wouldn't appreciate it. Though she did marry me for some reason. I still don't understand that. Oh well. Crow hates art, but he's still learning to paint anyway. That is also incredibly confusing. Why does nothing make sense here?

Well, Shrike painting is fairly normal and makes sense. At least, it doesn't not make sense. Maybe I should just stop contemplating this stuff. Hmm. That might help with a lot of my problems, actually.

Samantha finally had her elder birthday. A whole week after she was originally supposed to. Why did she have to totally ignore me when I said that she should just have it when she was supposed to? Oh well.

I think she aged pretty well. Though apparently she really, really hates that... um... I don't even know what it is. Sleeping-thingy that she aged into. I understand that. It's weird looking.

I don't really have much left to say about Crow and Shrike working on homework. I just think they're really adorable, so here are some more pictures of them. Very soon, they're going to be teenagers. That sounds kind of stressful.

Little Shrike and her newspaper formal clothes. Well, if it makes sense to her. I guess.

I went off to the beach to look for Mai Lau, because I still haven't gotten her DNA. She's hard to find and I really don't know why. Anyway, Synapse was there with his girlfriend. I'd forgotten he's a mermaid. Mai almost got away yet again, but I finally managed to talk to her and get a sample. Wait a second... I just realized that one day Crow and Shrike will marry creepy people who live here...

And apparently even though we knew their birthdays were soon, we totally forgot to celebrate on that day and so they ended up aging on their own that night. Maybe they didn't mind, though, since they probably didn't very much like the way they looked right after becoming teens.

Luckily, I think they both look more like Samantha than me. Well, luckily for Crow at least. I'm not quite so sure about Shrike.

She has a really terrifying stare now. I mean, it was creepy when she was young but now it's really frightening. And she looks a lot like Samantha. Maybe exactly, aside from having pointy ears and plain black hair without any purple.

Why is my little Shrike so scary? Also I guess not so little now.

Why is she so completely insane, also? Everyone else is sane. Being sane is good. Sanity is useful. Well, actually I think Roderick Synapse is insane, but he's creepy and doesn't count.

Samantha doesn't seem to mind that Shrike is completely crazy. Crow is apparently still a bit disturbed by his sister. But they get along well enough besides that. Which is good. And as I had always hoped, they decided on their own which of them would be the heir! Although I can't remember if we ever told them why one of them had to be an heir or anything. Should probably do that some time.

Anyway, Crow said he doesn't want any more to do with this madness that he has to and that his sister is the perfect candidate. Shrike said that she is insanity. So... I guess that meant she likes the idea? I wish I could understand her. Without going as insane as her.

And then I had to go to work. Soon, hopefully very soon, I'll get another promotion. There is no way we will be trapped here forever as representatives of madness. I won't allow it!

It was time for little Crow and Shrike to start at high school as well. Crow was all ready to leave, but Shrike took a minute. Apparently she had to argue with herself and then breath into a paper bag before she could go to school. She just keeps getting stranger.

Samantha also headed off to work. She's do quiet well as a doctor, which is nice. Though she has to read a lot and play chess and go off to work at all hours, so it seems like a really tough job.

I kind of wonder how the bus driver managed to get through that drive, even though it's quite short.

Notes:
Crow gained the Eco-Friendly trait
Shrike gained the Unstable trait

I really love Shrike. I need to get a picture of her with her mother's hair, because they look so incredibly similar. Plus, she's been getting traits I love just from randomizing.

I don't think I've said this in a while, or here, but once more, I would like to thank everyone who is reading this story! It makes me really, incredibly happy that you have taken the time to read it.

Also, I'm back in school now, so my updates are likely to be even more erratic than usual. Thanks again!

That last picture with them both staring...so creepy...

Shrike seems like she'll make a really interesting heir. Insane AND unstable? That is the perfect combination of traits! Can't wait to see more from this!

Akon, sorry haven't commented in a while!  Been pretty busy, so I often read on my phone and it can be a royal pain to comment at times XD  But just wanted to drop in and say love Shrike!  Really want her to be heir!  She fits right in to Midnight Hollow!

So... this is not an update... I just wanted to thank people and also reply to these two comments because I don't know when I'll have time to write another update.

It was quite creepy. I guess most sims stare in the bus, but it's never looked as creepy as it does with those two. I'm extremely happy with Shrike's traits, which is pretty neat since I've been randoming them. I've never actually played with an unstable sim before, so I'm wondering if it'll get annoying.

Good to hear from you again! I've been really busy lately as well. Between college and trying to make work for my portfolio, it could be a while before I manage to get another update done. Thanks so much to everyone who is reading/has read this story! I really appreciate it and I wish I had more time to work on it.
