Next step for repairing the future?

I finished Fire in the Sky.  I changed my traits and family.  Now it says "Get your personality and household to a finished state and return to the future to talk with Emit".  (Or something like that.)  What does it mean by "Get your personality and household to a finished state"?  How does one "finish" a personality or household?

I've played this changing the future thing twice and have not seen what you describe. I didn't change my Sim's traits, though. And what do you mean that you changed your family? Also., would you go back into the game and tell us exactly what it says? You said "or something like that", so I'd just like to see the exact wording.

After you successfully make people in the town believe the sky is falling, Emit talks to you again.  I don't remember if you have to use the magnet at that point or before that point but you also pop up a wish to do it six times, and you get some awesome metals from the sky.  At this point I was instructed to change my traits, my net worth and my family.  So I got rid of one ornery plumbot, created two more, got filthy rich(er), changed my traits to be  bot fan, ecofriendly and neat, keeping born to perform and star quality and I married Styles McGraw. 

It says:  Travel to the Future and Speak with the Time Traveler by Sunday, 11:58 PM

He said:  "Wonderful!  Using my tachyon scanners, I've tracked your signal back through time and isolated your family line.  Get your personality and household to a finished state, and then rejoin me in the future.  I'm so excited to see what these changes have wrought."

What I don't understand is getting them to a finished state.  I have several backups so could go back and either redo or check more.

I haven't seen this particular chain of events, so I'm only guessing.  Maybe the "finished state" is the changing of the traits and net worth, etc. that you've already done.  I would travel to the future and see if it can be completed.

Yep, a quick google search turned up that you have to go into the future. That's it.

The finished state part seems to mean like "if you married someone you didn't really want to, divorce. Sell the plumbot, hire a babysitter. Just prepare to travel to the future".

Went into the future several times, going back to main page without saving in between of course.  Each time I ran out of time and failed the challenge.  First it was very hard to find Emit.  Then when I did find him he never addressed the challenge at all but would chat about everything BUT the challenge.  Twice I went back solo.  Didn't work so the next time I went back with the family.  Didn't work.  I've changed a couple more things and will go back once again and see what happens.  Thanks you two!  I'll let you know if it worked this time.

EDIT:  Ok, didn't work but I got a message that said, basically, (and no I can't go back and retrieve it), "holy, hairy llamas Rosamund!  Something has changed in the time space continuum that may have affected your descendants.  You must go into the future and talk to the time traveler to see what has happened."  Not exact but basically it.  This is the first time I got that message.   So I gathered up my family since each one got the message and off we went.  We selected the house we had bought and everyone went there.  You know how where you have an opportunity there is a blue box with white words that tells you what to do?  Then, when it's time to do it or when it's possible to do it the words get bold and brighter and sometimes there is a star over the spot you are supposed to go to?  Well, it never goes bold.  If I don't bother with that and just go find Emit we can chat about basically everything but it never gets to anything about the descendants or whatever.

I'm seriously thinking this is yet another bug.  No matter what I do I can't get Emit to talk to me about whatever it is that is the next step.
