Ownable Lot
« on: May 21, 2012, 09:42:19 AM »
I just noticed that there's a choice (when I was changing from commercial) on the residential lot in Starlight Shores for a REGULAR Lot or an OWNABLE Lot. What is the difference between the two?

I saw the same thing in a WA location. Ownable lot means playable Sims can buy it. I believe regular lot means only townies.

The WA ownable lot is obviously a lot that can be purchased by a playable sim as a vacation home while on vacation. However I see no purpose for having an ownable lot option on the hometown, and I haven't found a way to make it useful.

I switch residential houses to "ownable lot" to ensure Townies don't move into the ones I want to save for my descendants.

See? Plenty of good uses. I didn't even think of that possibility. Nothing is just plain useless.

I have never seen something that said ownable lot in game.   Where does it come from?  Are you talking about CAW?

Go into edit town and click on a lot. You will have the option under "residential" to leave it as a residential lot or turn it into an "ownable" lot.

I think it came with WA.
So it only came with the EP itself? Another reason why I should get World Adventures.  :)

It's also used in vacation towns, so you can add your own vacation lot. let's face it, many of the vacation lots to buy at level 3 are terrible.

Go into edit town and click on a lot. You will have the option under "residential" to leave it as a residential lot or turn it into an "ownable" lot.

This option is not available for me on any of my screens.  Are you guys certain this isn't a feature of a mod?  I've started new games, I've played old games.  I've looked all over for this thing for the last hour.  I have World Adventures and I've had it since it came out.

When I go into Edit Town and click on a lot.  The choices are Residential or Commercial.   Residential has no options and Commercial has all the options of all the different types of lots that came with the expansions and base game.   I've tried Sunset Valley, Hidden Springs and Starlight Shores.

Edit: Actually as soon as I posted this I came up with an idea.   The only way this option is available for me is if I'm editing one of the worlds that came with WA.  It's not available in any of the home worlds for me.

I do use Twallan's Traveler, so maybe that's why I have it in regular towns.

Ownable lots are introduced by World Adventures to differentiate potential vacation homes from the local townies' homes.  In order to see the lot type, you need a mod that adresses travel and/or lot types, like the one mentioned above.

The difference between an Ownable and Regular residential lot is that the active family cannot buy a Regular lot in a vacation world, and Ownable lots have a special reservation to leave them available for player purchase (the level of exclusivity may depend on whose Story Progression you're running).

Once owned, there is no noticable difference between the lot types.  The process to move to them, build/buy and sell them is identical.  Under "Check Real Estate," both types will appear as Private Lots if they're on your homeworld and Vacation Homes if they're not.
