Welcome to my 4x4 Dynasty attempt! The style of story is going to be a lot different to my Moons of Jupiter story, as the challenge goes by much faster on the medium lifespan. I hope you enjoy. I'll have a chapter up soon.

Chapter One: A Genius is Born
« Reply #2 on: January 13, 2014, 03:45:06 AM »
Alexander Lorien had a relatively normal family. His father Alistair was a business man, with a child-like face and his mother Agnes, who was once the black widow of the town, was a youthful and budding author. They were a couple who were very in love.

As soon as Alexander was born, both his parents knew that he was cut out for something special. He learnt to walk, talk and use the potty much faster than those kids around him.

As a child, and teen, Alexander was different to the other kids. Most children loved school for all the friends, games and socialisation. Alexander, however, hardly ever attended a day of school. Of course, Alistair and Agnes had been quite mad at him to begin with, but as time passed, they grew used to it.

The reason Alexander never wanted to attend school was because he was far more interested in something else - building, learning and discovering. Whilst his brothers and sisters went to school, he spent his mornings, days and nights at the inventing table his parents had bought him for his childhood birthday. This love of inventing travelled with him all the way from childhood through to adult life.

Day in, and day out, Alexander would invent. Around him, his families lives went on in a blur. His twin brothers, Zachary and Thomas, grew to teens; his twin sisters Elizabeth and Victoria, grew to children.

Within a flash, it was time for Alexander to enter adulthood.

Alistair and Agnes looked at their son. All grown up, but knowing nothing of the world. They decided that it was time to get him away from that inventing table, and out into the big wide world.

The three of them booked an extended holiday over in France, where there was no inventing table in sight. Agnes stayed back at the camp site, talking to locals and writing her books, whilst the two men headed out to the tombs to explore.

To Alexander's surprise, he actually found the whole thing quite exciting. Each morning, he'd wake up bright and early, have his breakfast, and pull his father out the door to explore more and more.

After many days of exploring, Alexander decided to head to the local council to look at updating his visa. He was quite impressed when he found he was allowed to buy a holiday house in France! He, and his parents, headed out to have a look at various houses in the town, and settled by a beautiful one on the river that Agnes fell in love with instantly. After a bit of updating, it was ready for them to relax in.

And, of course, that update included an inventing table! Alexander had gone quite a number of days without discovering something new, and although he loved exploring, he loved inventing even more.

Although they didn't want their holiday to end, they had to head home for Alexander's graduation day. Even though they were jetlagged, they made it to the town hall (in a limo no-less, as Alistair was the CEO of the local business tower). Alexander didn't graduate with very good marks, as he'd spent more days inventing than days spent at school, but the family were just thankful he had passed!

The days flew by, with Alexander receiving awards left, right and centre. Widget awards, honour trophies, and lots of money from his inventions. He was flying up the ladder of the inventing career with ease.

His brother's were doing well in their lives too - they'd both been on the honour roll, and were ready to graduate from high school. The entire family - all 7 of them - went to watch the boys graduate. Afterwards, the family decided to head to the park for a barbeque lunch to celebrate, when something terrible happened.

Death had come for Agnes.

Agnes begged for a few more days, but Death was not willing to compromise. The whole family cried as they watched their mother pass on.

The family was in shock. They held each close, as they wept. They went back home, no longer feeling overwhelmed with joy, but overwhelmed with sadness.

Ugh, I've already hit a bug. I'm on heir 2, but now my sims aren't aging. I might be finishing this story already.

Try asking in the dynasty thread about it. Maybe one of the challenge mods would be able to help you.

It's good to see you again, Alex! Love the start and I hope you'll be able to continue.  :D
