The Story Of Lacy Coral

CHAPTER 1:

My name is Lacy Coral and I am a teenage mermaid. My mother was Marina Coral, apparently princess of all the mermaids in the Mermaid Grotto. She was beautiful and enchanting to all including her good family friend Triton King. She met my father after he fell out of his ship, my mother saved him. She fell so in love that she ditched her title to be with this human man. My parents bought a small resort in which they got married. A few months later my mother was pregnant with me. She taught me all my basic skills but when I was a toddler she died. Now all I have are pictures. I vaguely remember her from early childhood and that's it. I inherited nothing from her except for me being a mermaid. I look mostly like my dad with practically nothing from my mother apart from a few slight facial features.

It's the first day of Year 9. I reluctantly lumbered out of bed and put on the first clothes I saw. I have some breakfast which comes back up just as quick because I cope terribly with sea sickness. I hat all of this boat business. I was born on a boat and I live on a boat. After cleaning up I grab my bag and head out the door to the port where our houseboat is docked at. After catching a cab to school I realise I'm an hour early. I started fiddling with my messy hair still in yesterday's braid as I check over some Summer homework I got over the holidays. Here in Isla Paradiso we don't bother with proper seasons, everything here is Summer. I see some people start to fill up the car park so I decide to head into class.

I hardly pay attention to anything that happens in school, I am easily distracted. After lunch as I head to my last class, the most awkward and embarrassing thing happens to me; my scales start to itch from lack of sea water. I slowly rub my fingers over the blue and peach scales on my leg, hidden under a long skirt. That's another disadvantage with being a mermaid. Apart from the constant need for sea water, I have to wear long pants and dresses to cover my scales on my legs. Before I head home I go for a quick dip in a private beach to hydrate my tail. Swimming is my only talent; I'm a natural. I also don't need to breath under water so I am the best swimmer on the school swim team. You're probably wondering about my tail when I do school swim team stuff but I always have some kelp in my school back. Kelp isn't just a food source for mermaids but also if you eat the steam your tail and scales temporarily vanish.

As I'm swimming around in the cool rejuvenating water, I find a small cave in the distance. I swim swiftly towards it but then I feel something grab my tail...

Stay tuned for chapter 2...
