Giving birth problem with Isla Paradiso
« on: July 24, 2013, 07:37:15 PM »
Basically, this is the first time I've had this problem with Isla Paradiso; when it's time for my pregnant sims to pop, they ALWAYS walk to the hospital. The husband sometimes will go via taxi, but she always has to walk. And by the time she gets there, the husband will have gone back home and then has to go back to the hospital (while she waits for him outside, sometimes) and by the time the kid comes out they are both feeling like crap an the pregnancy is rough and I get a kid with not-so-great traits.

Anyone find a good trick to avoid this? Give them a car? Move them to a houseboat? I may be able to temporarily fix this by just keeping them around the hospital when it's near the time, but as much as I like IP neighborhood; I like breeding families too and I just can't do home pregnancies as they don't seem to give out any better results.

Home birth will automatically make the mother and nooboo be friends; all hospital births I've ever seen make them just acquaintances.

Home births also let you keep the mother in a room full of +moodlet enhancing, so that ideally, you can pick the traits.

(It's for those reasons I refuse to do hospital births.)

I always thought the trait selection had to do with everything up to labour, not the labour itself.  That's what I do in my games and it's generally worked (keeping mum green through positive needs and enhancing moodlets).  Reading pregnancy books is also supposed to help increase the chance to choose traits, though I'm not sure if having the dad read them too also helps but it can't hurt!

I know what you mean about the terrible delivery pathing in IP.  I played one pregnant sim who lived on a different island from the hospital and it usually took her half a day+ before she managed to get home carrying the infant - between getting there to give birth and getting home was almost a full day!

A houseboat parked nearby might do the trick, but I'm not sure if it would have to be set as the active home lot first.  If your sims really need to give birth in the hospital I'd recommend a home on that island, or taking them to the hospital a couple of hours before they're ready to go into labour (that requires knowing what time of day conception happened though).  If you really want to speed up hospital births you could drop a 10x10 empty residential lot as close as possible near the hospital, have the family buy it (should be about 200 simoleons), drop a tent, a fridge, and an all in one bathroom on it, and move the household there on the last day of mom's pregnancy.

Home births probably are the best way to go though.  It's definitely easier to keep mom happy, she can even be placed in a room and the door locked so no other family members freak out about the labour, and there's no time delay in getting to or from the hospital.  Plus she's instantly friends with the kids, which is a nice bonus.

Well, I tried the home birth and wasn't able to choose any of the traits. Her mood was really high and both parents read the baby books so idk what the deal was. I managed to try it again and get her and the husband in the hospital properly the next time, but I still wasn't able to choose the traits and both were in good moods and read the baby books so I don't know.

I'll probably just stick with the home birth, for now on. At least for IP. Home birth sounds like the better of the two overall, but I'm just so used to bringing them to the hospitals.

Keeping the mom happy all through the pregnancy is more important than what goes on during labor. Fulfill as many wishes as possible and keep all needs in the green for the whole pregnancy. Home birth is the best for an easy delivery and a good relationship with the parents.

I always do a home birth, too.  I just got tired of going to the hospital all the time.

Really the only thing you have to watch during the pregnancy is the mother's energy.  No matter how happy she is during the pregnancy, if her energy bar even gets into the yellow, you'll lose the ability to choose at least one of the traits.  Make sure she gets plenty of rest and don't let her energy get below green.

When mom is close to labor get her as expensive as you can afford spa package.  It puts her in the best mood and it lasts right through labor.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Joria is right, and with owning resorts now you can get free spa-treatments at your resort rabbit-hole bunker (assuming it's fully upgraded). :) Moms need low stress pre-birth. Like Pam said... if any of her needs really drop below the green during pregnancy (ESPECIALLY energy) you'll likely lose the chance to pick traits. I can't speak from experience as I've always been able to pick at least one of my traits with almost all of my Sim kids.
Spa packages are lovely though, even the cheap mani-pedi-facial stuff can leave nice, fairly long-lasting moodlets to keep momma Sim in the green.

My Sims always give birth at home, but Linda Scott, who wasn't in my family and is pregnant with Rubisel Ichtaca's baby in the start of the game, decided to give birth in hospital, and it took nearly a day from her to get from houseboat to hospital. Really, I tried to follow her but when i lost her, i just thought she has gone home but she wasn't there either. About half a day later, she entered the hospital and instantly came out holding a little bundle of blue blankets.

The trait info is interesting, I have never not been able to choose both traits in all the time I've been playing sims 3, until the other day when I started practicing the service challenge, I did nothing different to anything I have ever done during a pregnancy but I could only pick one trait, I thought maybe the dislikes children trait of the mother had something to do with it but maybe I let her get too tired  ???

My Isla Paradiso sims pregnency went on pretty normal.
My sim can choose the trait for her kid even though she didn't read any of those time wasting book.(she needs to level up and mastering her skill ASAP)

There is only one time the preggers stuck.
It was when a sim in my household (Haku)'s romantic interest(Karlie) came for a visit and stay in the house. After that, Haku is trying for baby with another sim. So, when he came home, Karlie who is already huffing and puffing suddenly stop the huff-and-puff to accuse him of cheating.
That's when the problem came : they are both stuck. They are not doing anything; just standing there looking at each other for half day before I decided to reset the guy.
Then they are not stuck anymore; but the girl seems to stuck in the labour action. She's doing the huffs-and-puffs in the corner for one day until I finally realize there is something wrong and reset her too. She immediately gave birth.
