Is internet connection required to play Sims 3 on a PC?

I am thinking about buying a laptop and the Sims 3 base game so I can play the Sims while my PS3 console is being used by my little brother. We don't have wireless internet either. Solution?

No, you don't need internet to play The Sims 3, except for registering your game, Simport etc etc
But, you need internet connection to update your game.

An internet connection allows you to download game updates (patches) or buy things from the store.  You can also purchase the games as digital downloads from Origin, and to do that you would need the connection.  But if you buy the game on disc and don't mind if it's not patched up, you definitely don't need an internet connection to play and enjoy the game.

If you'd like the updates, you don't have to have wireless either. Most laptops have an ethernet port where you could hook up long enough for updates. Of course, this is optional; like everyone said, you don't need internet to play. I most often turn the internet off when I'm playing the Sims on my laptop as it was causing me issues.

My daughter plays the Sims 3 on a PC in her room that is not hooked up to the internet. She can get updates with new expansions she might get. It hasn't been hard for her to play it without the internet.
