Reinstalling Base Game
« on: November 15, 2013, 09:18:16 PM »
I dunno what happen but now I can't load the game.  It gets to the save screen and then when you see the loading bar it gets all graphic like.  I know I'm going to need to re-install the game but my question is will I lose all the stuff like furniture, houses, wallpaper and so forth?  I'm not too worry about the saved games I have cause I know I can always move those to another folder for the time being.  I also know <in theory> I don't have to reinstall the other games but if I have to that shouldn't be the problem.  The main thing I'm more worried about are all the stuff I've collected.  Also, if possible, is there a way I can dump all those items to another folder till the re-installing of the game is done and put it back into the same folder?  Will that work?

From the title of your post, it sounds like you want to uninstall the base game.  Unfortunately, you can't do that unless you uninstall all of the games.  You can uninstall each expansion pack after the base game, but just not the base game.  Yes, you can put saves or folders on the desktop in a folder and if you do reinstall your games, you can put them back in.  I used a thumb drive and it worked perfect, either way is fine.  If you have anything from the store, you can just go to your purchase history and reinstall those items.

You can uninstall and reinstall just the base game and the expansion packs will be fine. However you should do as Saltypaws suggests and move the Sims 3 folder from My Documents to the desktop during the uninstall and reinstall.
Before uninstalling, I would try a factory reset-- move the Sims 3 folder from My Documents to the desktop and then start the game, which will cause a fresh Sims 3 folder to be generated. If the game works fine with a fresh folder, that means there is something in the old folder causing the issue. You can then use the process of elimination to determine what is causing the problem.
