Made the Most of my Time question
« on: November 13, 2013, 09:10:32 AM »
Ok, I've been goofing around with all the new stuff in Into the Future including the new LTWs. I tried having a Sim complete the Made the Most of my Time wish, but I couldn't seem to get it to complete. My Sim visited each future after completing the opportunities needed to make the changes and stayed at least a day in each one. He got the Time Keeper Legacy statue and the Time Remote, but the LTW didn't complete. Is there something special you have to do during each visit or something?
I've ruled out any mods preventing it from completing by trying a mod-free attempt, that was a strange experience after playing with mods so long, but even mod-free, my Sim couldn't seem to complete the LTW. What am I missing here?

I guess I'm not the only one who hasn't figured it out or no one has explored it much yet.

Ok, I noticed a lot of views but no replies, so I figure that there are others looking for the same answer or something like that. That's why I decided to share what I learned in my most recent attempt at this Lifetime Wish.
In hindsight, it seems pretty simple, and I don't know why I didn't realize it in previous attempts. Anyway, here's what I did in a nutshell for those that are interested. The first step of course is to make a trip to the normal future. I don't know if it's necessary, but it's what worked for me. Do whatever you want while you're there, like steal everything that isn't bolted down  :P . I think I netted around 18k just selling the oculo computers, windcarvers, jetpacks, and holo discs, kept about one of each for my Sim. Not that any of that matters to the LTW, I goofed around with opportunities and visited my descendants for a couple of days then went back to the present.
There certainly isn't any order that you have to do it, but I triggered the Dystopian future first and did the opportunities needed to make the change. Naturally, after that, it was time to return to the future and see what had changed. My Sim tried to help Emit with his research, but he kept getting the ones he had already done, so he payed a visit to his smelly descendants instead and improved his relationship with them in spite of the smell. On the way back to the Community Center, he dug through some garbage piles and explored a couple of rifts. I doubt this mattered for the Wish, but I figured he should fully experience this future. There were a few other things that he did during his stay like bot building and such, but those don't really affect the Wish.
It was time for a quick trip back to the present to undo what he had done to the future, and this was the step that I skipped in previous attempts. I think it might be why I couldn't get the Wish to complete before. My Sim did what he had to do to restore the future back to the normal future he had visited before, and then it was time for a quick trip back to it to make sure things were the way they should be. This was a short trip with the usual visits to the future offspring and a little more bot building before heading back to the present once again.
It was time now to trigger another change to Utopia now. He jumped through all the hoops and turned the residents of Sunset Valley technicolor for a while. A visit to the military base for widespread dispersal of the dew and Emit, or a hologram of him, showed up to inform my Sim that a statue had been erected in his honor as Time Keeper. The Wish still hadn't completed, so it was time for another jaunt to the future. I expected that I would have to restore it to normal again for the Wish to complete, but luckily that wasn't the case. As soon as my Sim arrived in the Future, there was joyous music, and my Sim's lifetime wish was complete.
Well, that turned out to be more long-winded than I had intended, but the storyteller in me got involved. I don't think it matters what order you use, but it seems that restoring between Dystopia and Utopia is essential. It also doesn't seem to matter what if anything you do in the future, but you might as well enjoy your time in each while you're there. Hopefully, this will help anyone who's having issues with it and help with any guide that might be written about the Wish. Now, I'm off to see if I can get all 5 Legacy statues with that same Sim before he croaks.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it. Just a couple of days ago, I had some issues with the Time Keeper Legacy Statue, which is very similar to this LTW. If Emit were not best friends before all the changes to the timeline had been made, I had to make the timeline change one more time after befriending him in order to get the Legacy Statue, which is one extra step outside the requirements for it. Becoming best friends wouldn't finish it, but was still a requirement. Thankfully, though the game stated a specific order (become best friends THEN experience dystopia, utopia, then normal) it still kept track of the visits to the different future worlds and my last change forced the game to look at the checklist again, finishing my statue requirements. I guess this Lifetime Wish could have a similar quirk to it, and imagine that most people will not have to reset to normal between Dystopia/Utopia in order to complete it.

Do you think it is possible that on your first attempt, after getting the legacy statue, one more change to the timeline (ANY) might have triggered the game to complete it? As in, you have the Time Keeper or other statue, but the game was looking for the timeline to change as the final component. Either way, it seems it's not perfectly fleshed out. We normally have a checklist and when the checklist is finished, the LTW completes. I guess I'm pointing out a similar problem occurs with the statue and we have to force the game to re-check our progress if it's done outside the perfect order.

To anyone doing this LTW, notice that the only thing standing between you and LTW completion PLUS a legacy statue is best friends status with Emit, which is very easy to do given you can summon him to your home lot at will and he's always hanging around the Community Living Center in the Future. Getting the Time Keeper legacy statue is the easiest choice to complete the wish since you are already aiming to complete very similar requirements.

EDIT: I just completed the LTW using only the time remote control, without ever having this Sim visit any of the alternate Futures or do the Opportunities herself. Once the timeline had been changed around a few times, and she'd gotten Time Keeper through cheating to best friends with the Time Traveler, stepping through the portal to Utopia immediately completed the Lifetime Wish. This also forced me to edit the Legacy Statues page, as you can take a Legacy Statue from another Sim simply by doing the requirements over. I think this reinforces my theory that we simply have to force the game to re-check progress to get the Time Keeper statue or this LTW. In the case of the LTW, the re-check is to travel to the Future, while the statue is to change the timeline again.

You're likely right about changing it one more time, Carl. I didn't really try changing it again since I was expecting something a little more complex for a LTW like this one. I also didn't realize it could be done as easily as that with the time remote either. To me, doing it with something like the time remote just feels a bit like cheating the system to complete the wish since the wish talks about experiencing the different futures as part of it. Granted, you still have to have your Sim save up the points to get the remote, but it still sort of cheapens it to do it that way in my book.

As far as the best friends with Emit part, my Sim already had Opportunistic when he met Emit, so that first Opportunity when you inspect the portal made them virtually best friends right after that. A short chat after going to the future bumped them to best friends which made it no worries as far as the statue was concerned.

Well, the Time Remote was mainly for testing. I would never recommend that, after all the exploration is fun and you get a free Time Remote when you get the Time Keeper Legacy Statue, which would be redundant. I certainly wouldn't need more than one remote in my family, although you will keep getting them due to what feels like a bug as people can keep switching who has Time Keeper and end up with multiple remotes. Thankfully it's avoidable so long as you don't have everyone become best friends with Emit.

Anyway, thanks for confirming my theory as likely. It should help some folks who visit this topic and we may want to put some kind of note in the walkthrough that is being published by Pam, depending on what her findings are.

Cool. Just let me know if there is any data that you need from me. It looks like you've got most if not all of it covered though. Hmmm, I wonder how much you can get by selling any extra remotes...

Time Remotes are worth $0 unfortunately  :(

And yes, aside from updating lists throughout the Guide, I am done with new pages for ItF. I will be adding onto the holo disc sprites section and some others, thanks to notes given to me here, through comments and on the official forum :)
